Had some interesting things. If anywhere from the area, might find some ancestor info in there. Loved the old hand written book on why people were jailed and for how long. It's ran by volunteers and the admittance fee is by donation.
The folk at City Hall opened up a lower room that had mural's that hadn't been painted over through the years. Really interesting. Also explored the other floors for City Hall. The Jail is also the Chamber of Commerce office. The woman who worked there gave us a guided tour with very interesting commentary of the 1888 jailhouse and its history.
Very nice musuem and the old manual drill dentist chair makes one NOT wish for the "good old days"! But visit the town during Christmas for the outstanding lights in the courthouse area, downtown and at the city park. The building are lined with white lights with just enough colored lights balance things out. The city park has a wonderful display of lights. The trees are trimmed in white lights, blues lights outline the creek and various Christmas themed light display are scattered throughout the park. One of the nicest small town display in Central Texas. If you are withing a 30 min to an hour drive, swing by! There is no fee to drive thru the park.
I stopped in and met with Max, who was very nice and helpful. I was looking for some local business information, since I was traveling and seeking new customers. He knew a lot about what I was looking for. While there I had to take a quick look around, he showed me the first car ever registered in Mills County, very nicely restored and promently displayed as you walk in. I like local history, and when I noticed this site was not listed here - I knew I should add it...........Admission is by donation.
