Loyd Park... What can I say... a great place go and veggggg. I felt so comfortable just to relax. the country close to the city. Visit this place to just read a book ride a bike or camp..
One of our stops on our vacation for this year. Really nice campground would be willing to stay here again however there are a few things that need improvement. 1) the bathrooms don't have hand soap, . 2) no laundry. 3) no camp store, but they do have a sign that say there is on coming soon.
We have camped at Loyd Park many times with the Scouts. It feels like we have driven far away to camp in the country, and yet the city is right nearby. The proximity to our Metroplex home makes it superb. One can camp, hike, fish, ride bikes and cook smores. Great place.
We live in Arlington so Loyd Park is only 15 minutes from us. We love to get away on the weekends. Perfect place to do so and lots to do!!!!
Booked campsite online and stayed labor day weekend. It was lots of fun for both young and old. Plenty to do.
We got great deals on groupon to rent all day kayak and canoe. My kids loved it. We went on a Tuesday so it was not crowded. We paddled down the trail but after 20 min of paddling in several parts of stagnant water (many submerged tree trunks, some trash) we came out of the trail and just paddled around the lake. The park is very well mantained. The water at the lake is very clean. The playground is new with "fast, dangerous" spinning areas that my boys loved. We brought a casting net and caught minnows and several bigger fish. We spent 8 hrs there. Whenever we got hot, we would get in the water and cool off.
I feel so lucky to literally have this park in my backyard! They have an awesome 4 lane boat ramp. A fishing area on shore. Beach. A giant playground for kids. Beautiful hiking trails and even horseback riding trails. Its also dog friendly!Until this year when we bought our RV we had not seen many other parks so didn't have much to compare Loyd park to, now that we do I will say its hard to find parks as nice! They have cabins for rent and tons of private campsites or RV sites speckled through the woods, many even on the water (reserve early for prime spots). Joe Pool Lake is also a very nice lake, with a restaurant, party cove, and plenty of good fishing I have heard. If my house was not less than a mile away I could see staying and camping at Loyd Park for even close to a week and having plenty do do!
I am really bothered by the review of MR DAVE B FROM HOUSTON (stay at home) by the remark he made on his visit to the park. Where does he get off putting everyone who has a tattoo into on catagory. That is totally wrong on your part, are you some old fart who doesn't like how people show there own personality. I have several tattoos and I'm a CHRISTIAN, what do you think of that, I don't believe GOD puts me into a catagory, he loves me for who I am? The only other thing I need to say to you is stay in Houston where the total weirdos live and let us enjoy our lovely park.
I want to say this about the staff, they are the best, bar none. The grounds were and stayed clean all weekend despite massive amounts of people. That said, let me tell the readers now reading this post. The Memorial weekend was so crowded and chaotic that a young female swimmer was actually ran over by a water ski. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital and she was okay. The water skiing folks here at the beach were OUT OF CONTROL and for the record I've never seen 5 law enforcement vehicles ON A BEACH together with a boat police crew. Not the parks problem BUT......the "type" of weekend revelers were of the tattoo, gold chain wearing, pit bull dog lovin type. Now Lloyd Park is a not dog friendly place and they claim to enforce the leash rule but in reality about half of the visitors had dogs and they roamed freely with their tattoo owners. Not on the beach mind you but .......yah.If it weren't for the hard working staff and the cleanliness of the place I'd have to give this a "D".
I hate to give a great review only because I selfishly want to keep this gem to myself...but they do such an excellent job at this park I can't keep quiet. We are locals and have only camped here a few times but go to the park almost weekly in season. It is always very well maintained and clean. The park staff are awesome, super helpful and friendly. The campsites are large with many private and quiet. Other areas where you will find a more party atmosphere (typically the ones closer to the lake by the boat ramp). They have full hook ups for RVs with power and dumping. If you are launching your boat here they have a great 4 lane ramp with a boat dock for easily picking up people. However if you are not seasoned at launching you may want to launch at the Oasis especially if putting in or pulling off at night, the ramp at Loyd park is not very well lit and if you don't know where you are going you could get yourself in some trouble. Once you get off the lake with a boat they have an area that is well lit and has a trash can and hose to clean the boat off as you are exiting the park
We did practice camping last night at Loyd Park. We were amazed at the overall condition of the park. The bathroom/showers were clean and well stocked. The grounds were trash free EVERYWHERE!! Our campsite was roomy and shaded and the neighbors were friendly. We lit a fire and toasted marshmallows and even the dog was very happy!! The lake and boat facilities were well arranged as were many non camping picnic spots.
Lovely park - staff is everywhere keeping it clean and there are tons of picnic tables and a nice beach area. We toured all the overnight camping spots and everything looked clean and well maintained. Lots of pretty spots to choose from. The cabins look adorable. Cannot wait to stay there for birthday this June.
I had a very enjoyable weekend in Piney Woods cabin number 166 at Loyd Park. The cabin and its surrounding area is quiet, clean, roomy, plenty of amenities, and awesome lake access. The park itself has beautifully kept grounds, clean communal bathrooms/changing area and are well maintained. All of the campers around the cabin area were quiet and respectful. My overall experience was peaceful and enjoyable. One reason why this park was so quiet and peaceful was probably because of the fact that I did NOT come during a holiday weekend. The only small complaint I have is that they closed the canoeing and kayaking rental area due to low water. I wished they had informed mr that they were expecting to do that when I called about information on the canoeing and kayaking earlier that week .
