My wife and I were visiting Jefferson and found this wonderful museum. It's an unexpected enjoyment. We were walking from our car to the antiques stores and just happened to see this place was open. The owners are wonderful open people who have poured their hearts into this very varied collection of clocks, surveying equipment and curiosities. My wife, who usually does not like such things, was impressed and enjoyed the time. I will go back there every time we are visiting Jefferson and have told everyone we know.
This is a must visit for anyone interested in history, maps, surveying, timekeeping, clocks, salt/pepper shakers, early business machines, etc. etc. And most of all... the wonderful owners of all of these wonderful things opening up their hearts and collections, sharing with you their knowledge and beautiful artifacts. And talk about a small world... after telling Mr. Ingram that I lived in Clear Lake City, I learned that he was working in Houston at the time that Friendswood Development was starting up our community and he did much of the surveying to plat out our community! It was interesting to see the maps of the prairie and plains that are now part of our city! Plan to spend several hours here as there is a whole lot to see, whole lot to learn, whole lot to enjoy! All in a nice, well laid out facility.
We were given a personal tour by the owners. The museum is a their own collection that they have been collecting for over 60 years. They will give you all of the history behind the clocks and other things in the museum.
We went in by chance, it just looked interesting. We were so surprised because it's much more. This couple has such an amazing collection of time pieces. Vast and expansive collection that will take you back in time (pun intended). The lady that owns it took us on a personal tour and she was just delightful. Her husband has saved many pieces of surveying equipment from being lost. It was her genuine joy, love and excitement for her salt n pepper shaker collection that won me over. So thankful we decided to go in.
It is worth a visit just to meet the owners. All the collections are very interesting. You will leave there having been adopted! Wonderful folks!
The couple that run the place are the sweetest. This is their collections and they are very knowledgeable. Cool stuff to see everywhere.
We wandered into this by accident and I could have spent double the 1 1/2 hours we spent in there.. As others have said already.. If you have any fascination about land surveying, maps, and clocks then you have to visit this place. I have always had a interest in surveying and this about blew my mind.. The owner has collected surveying equipment going back a couple of hundred years and he taught himself how to use the equipment and make maps from them. He was extremely generous with his time and explaining of MANY things as was his wife with the clock collection. We will be going back next time in Jefferson.
If you end up enjoying the B&Bs in town it is well worth allocating a couple of hours for this museum. The owners are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and generous with their time which makes the whole place a must see if you have any interest in maps, clocks or anything related to measurement.
This is a great collection of clocks, survey equipment, mechanical calculators, and other interesting stuff. The owner is a retired surveyor and is very knowledgeable of both the history and the workings of his items. If the place is not busy, the owner will give you a tour and you can focus on the items that are of most interest to you. No fee, but donations accepted.
We enjoyed looking at the massive collection of clocks, surveying equipment, and maps. The owners are super nice folks and give you a very personal tour. They do ask for donations, but there is absolutely no pressure.
We were given an hour long free personal tour of antique clock, maps, surveying tools, and even a salt & pepper shaker collection! The owners are so, so kind and sweet and the museum is worth going to just to meet them. This is their personal collection that they enjoy sharing with others free of charge.
I see that someone wrote a review complaining that he was bored by what he found here. That is his right, but I would point out that it is absolutely free of charge, and contains a large collection of important instruments used for surveying and many clocks. The owner is a very interesting and informative man, who shares his 60 years of experience with the public as a service. If one was to bother to do more than a cursory and condescending appraisal, one would meet a fine man who has many interesting stories to tell. On the other hand, I doubt he knows anything about Jersey Shore or American Idol, so if you are looking for entertainment, this is not for you. If you would like to learn something, take some time and meet these fine people and hear their stories. This is one of the most interesting things you will see in Jefferson.
The owners are a very nice retired couple that love to give a personal guided tour. We spent about an hour with the wife before her husband came in. They are both very friendly and knowledgeable about their clocks, maps and surveying tools.
The museum was established and is run by a local couple who have collected a really diverse and interesting assortment of clocks, measuring and surveying tools, and early calculators. If you are a technology buff or just like local history, this is worth a stop. The owner-curators are gracious and informed.
This museum is all about time and the owners are so interesting. They have alot of knowledge about Jefferson as all the curious things in the museum.
