always willing to travel from Fort Worth to listen.... the talent and "listening room" are the perfect combination!!!
The Bugle Boy is always a marvelous experience for music and entertainment, a fusion of country and local eclectic. Situated in a converted barn (of sorts) it always seems to draw capacity crowds, serves mixed beverages and a variety of beers with a quaint charm that belies its outward modesty. I've enjoyed three performances and enjoyed them all!
Great place to really hear and see the musician. No worry of loud talking patrons or people standing in front of the stage. The atmosphere allows artist to relax and share stories of their life.
The Bugle Boy is a wonderful listening room in LaGrange, Texas. As noted by previous reviewers, it is run by a nonprofit foundation and receives a lot of local support. Why the Bugle Boy, well it is housed in a WWII barracks. The acoustics are fantastic. Many of the performers are from Texas but others will cruise through on occasion. The music ranges from folk to the blues. My wife and I are big supporters since we moved out to the country about 3 years ago. It is an intimate experience since there is only seating for up to about 80 people. There is not a bad seat in the house. Wine, beer, and snacks are sold. There is no food served so eat before you come. In any case, you won't regret it. Some of the talent that has appeared includes Eliza Gilkayson, Susan Gibson, Jimmy LaFave, Ruthie Foster, John Fullbright, and so on. The staff is great. If you like great music in an intimate setting, this is the place to go!!!!!!
We attended the Doors cover/performance and the content was adult only. The performance is was streaming live so you can probably listen for yourself. The first sentence out of the performer's mouth was we come from a land of false breasts and sequin dresses talking about CA. Then, later he tells a story about his mom finding a girly magazine in his room. Later, he mentions condoms. I'm sorry but this isn't appropriate for a ten year old little girl. The other performer had a little class warning him that there were children in the room. I wanted to leave; however, my ignorant husband says the jokes were over her head, but who knows what children really understand at this age. I wouldn't recommend this venue to any family.
You are treated as a friend by the staff, the acoustics are good, really a great music venue and experience..
The Bugle Boy is run by a nonprofit foundation that not only guarantees a minimum to performing artists but is a great advocate for music education in the community. It is a true listening room, using the expression "loose lips sink ships" to admonish concert-goers to listen rather than talk. The staff and volunteers are friendly and the music is always top notch.
A real entertainment surprise. A small venue (compared to large cities) lends a pleasant intimaacy with the audience and performers. Original artists and established acts come through the Bugle Boy throughout the year. A non-profit, they do much to support the arts in a town that pretty a.b.Keep in my this is a "listening" venue with comfy seats but not a dance venue. Beverages are available and dining nearby (suggest the Bistro 108 or Guadalajara - hours are an issue as small towns close early).
This awesome nonprofit music venue uses it's proceeds to fund artist scholarships to help a musician produce an album and then the musician pays back the money out of the album proceeds in order to fund a new scholarship the next year for a new artist. What a sustainable business model for a nonprofit! We saw the 2012 and 2013 trust recipients and WOW!! They are amazing musicians. It was a great show! The venue is cozy - no a bad seat in the house. Sound quality is amazing. They have wine and beer and coffee/great selection of hot and iced teas and snacks - even cheddar popcorn. The volunteers were so warm and friendly and so passionate about the music venue. We had a great time. It's a must see/must support in La Grange. However, despite the desire of the locals to keep it a secret, this awesome music venue will not be kept hidden! What a community gem! P.S. I just had to buy a bugle boy t-shirt too!
I've visited the Bugle Boy several times and am never disappointed. Check it out when you are in Fayette County area. It is worth the effort.
This is a listening room for great music artists. As the sign outside says," Loose lips sink ships". This isn't a bar, but a venue to enjoy many different kinds of musical talent. We've never been disappointed. Tickets are generally about $15.00. No reserved seats, but there isn't a bad seat in the house. The folks who run The Bugle Boy are very community minded. You'll see them out and about volunteering in other areas of town. Give it a try when you're in the area. Every Friday and Saturday Night.
I took a drive from Lake Charles area to LaGrange to see my favorite recording artist of all time "Delbert McClinton" and his son "Clay McClinton" to whom i'm becoming aquainted to his music. I've been enjoying Delberts live shows near 40 years now, damn he's gettin old! I met Clay when he was 16 and everytime i get a chance to see them together its really special to me. They are both genuinely good folk as well as his beautiful daughter, anyway i got hung up in Houston And arrived at the Bugle Boy about 10 minutes after the show ended. I saw Delbert when i walked inside and i was a little wrung out from the drive and asked him if he'd done his set .. He said yea,2 of em and they were good he assured me with a smile... I was a little disappointed that i missed them but i met some of the ladies that work all the magic there nd they were the nicest people. The place is an excellent listening joint and the atmosphere is comfortable, i will surely be going back to The Bugle Boy..... I guess i should've called and had them wait on me! Really nice place for Musicians and music lovers!
Marsha Ball and Johnny Nicholas...WOW! Great show...people...place..it popped! The Bugle Boy in La Grange Texas is a must do on your list...one of the last listening venues. We enjoyed the evening....and shall return for more.
They call their place a "listening room" - a term I was unfamiliar with. But I get it now. Smallish stage, row seating, no dancin'. Acoustics were great and we were treated to some great music by a folk band from Arkansas called "3 Penny Acre." The seating area seats about 80 or so. The Bugle Boy is a non-profit...I have no idea how they bring in the bands they do to La Grange - just a small town of 5,000. If you are near there, check out who's playing, go eat at Las Fuentes and then go listen to some great music!
Best music venue ever. Great sound system, great performers, audience is respectful of music, good beverages, great staff, reasonable admission, early ending. I could go on!
