We went here on a rainy weekend. Even with the off and on rain, it was a nice place to visit. The main building is a small museum. There are other historic old buildings and a very nice park, pond, and stream. We thought that it would be a beautiful place for wedding pictures. It's very close to historic downtown Montgomery. There is not a fee to enter, but donations are accepted. The historic homes all have steps, but the walking trails were not too difficult for the one of us who has minor problems walking.
Fernland Park and Memory Gardens are a great retreat back in time. The Park provides a look into the homes/architecture of the 1800s when Montgomery was established and Memory Gardens gives park goers a tranquil space to enjoy plants, flowers, trees and water features. The Rotary Club was instrumental in the development of the park. This is a great place for family photos, quiet walk in the park, or a romantic stroll.
We were musicians that played without charge for a festival that was put on. We had a really great time. Looks like visitors enjoyed the festival too.
Memory Park is a beautiful area to relax, and most of it is shaded. Fernland Park allows a glimpse into the History of Montgomery, and its informative as well as entertaining. The park is beautifully landscaped, so it makes a wonderful place for pictures. It's free, and you could easily spend an hour just relaxing on a bench near the pond.
Fernland Park is a historical area with multiple buildings brought to this site to preserve and inform. Buildings include homes, agricultural and a lovely steeple which includes a bell from one of the first African American churches in the area to be formed after the Civil War. It is well designed and informative. On one side of this area is the Memorial Gardens which include sculptures, benches and memorials to lost love ones around a small lake, behind the west library branch. It is a lovely setting, worth the walk, a place to relax and contemplate.
