Tasting fee was 6 for $7. Generally, the wine was very good and ran on the dry side. We purchased 2 bottles. The best being the Merlot.
The Texas Gulf Coast is not known as a destination winery location, but this is really a well done venue. They have recently expanded their indoor and outdoor facilities, and the wine quality has really gone up in the ten or so years since we first heard about them. This stop was for a corporate dinner event, the catered food was very good, the wines available to taste - virtually their entire portfolio - were very good. Would certainly go back, in a small or a large group.
In addition to great wines and a friendly and helpful staff, Bernhardtwinery.com hosts year-round concert series featuring fantastic bands! Spring and summer concerts held outdoors under sprawling oak trees on the lawn with a stage and dance floor. You can rent tables/chairs (great for adult birthday parties) or bring your own. Most people bring their chairs/blankets and coolers and have a picnic. Outside food/drinks permitted-but they stress no outside alcohol- or they could be fined. They also sell cheese/crackers/salamis and generally have a food truck. Owners make it feel like family and propose a toast at the beautiful country sunset. Indoor concertgoers asked not to talk during performance. Outdoors we've found the further away from the stage, the more talking/noise accepted by those around you. They have 2 restrooms (besides portapotties) One unisex inside front of building and one for each on the side. Adding a few more ladies rooms would be great for some of their larger crowds. It is easy to miss the entrance off 105 (a narrow country road). Plenty of parking in front and back. Small entry fee. Wear comfortable shoes. This isn't the place for heels. The atmosphere here is the best!
A small road-side sign lead us to this small Texas Winery!!! What a treat...with a beautiful tasting room...we bellied up 2 the bar!!! We tasted 6 varieties & to my surprise (a confirmed red drinker) I luv'd the Chardonnay along w/ several of the reds. We purchased a couple bottles & enjoyed the fireplace before heading down the road.
Great Sunday evening concerts outdoors in Summer into early Fall, with gracious hosts and staff, are a bargain at $10 per person. Bring a picnic basket (with your own non-alcoholic beverages if you prefer), or pick up cheese, sausage and crackers, and chocolate with wine or soft drinks at the winery or a meal from the featured caterer. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and first time visitors are made to feel very welcome. Join the hosts in a toast to the sunset, and enjoy the music. Good wines, great experience. We will definitely be back!
If you live in Houston or the surrounding areas, this is a good option for a day trip (or half day). The grounds have lots of areas to settle in for a picnic and just to hang out with a bottle of wine. The tastings are extremely reasonably priced ($7 for 6 tastings when we were there). The wines are good (don't expect Napa, but definitely not bad). The only complaint I might have is that for a Saturday, when you would expect a lot of people to be wandering in and out for tastings, they only had one person in the front of the shop for tastings, purchases, greeting, etc. She wasn't taking her sweet time or anything, but there wasn't a hustle nor did there seem to be other staff coming by to help her out either. So, the result was that a group of 3-4 ladies had to finish their tasting before we started ours, which was fine. But it took flagging her down and finding the wine list ourselves to even find out what our options were for the tasting, etc. Service was nice, however, could have been better planned and executed in summary. They have some small snacks (cheese, crackers, local jellies, etc) and soft drinks, but if you want to have a picnic or anything you should bring it.
We went for a wine tasting and an outdoor concert. They put them on every Sunday during the Summer for only $10 per person. We had a great time! The staff was very friendly and accomomdating. A great reflection of the owners. Bring some folding chairs and a picnic basket. Find a spot or for an extra $10 you can have your own table. Great wines! We'll definitely be back!
If one looks for gems of places to visit, this one may fit the bill. This winery is small, but it sits on a beautiful set of rolling hills. The view from the back porch reminds me of the view of Lake Austin from the County Line BBQ back porch. And the blooming peach trees at the front add to the Spring decor. We did a wine testing and our top picks were the Pinnelli white and the Crimson red wines. (It is a shame their production is not big enough to be listed at Spec's. ) The clincher was the back porch with with the light breeze and the afternoon sun under the big trees. We just bought a bottle of chilled Pinnelli and enjoyed the afternoon. It couldn't get better than that. For those who want to have a pic-nic, the winery has light items for purchase (cheese, crackers, preserved meat) that would go well with a bottle (or two...) Just be careful as you drive on FM 105, not to miss the turn to the winery. The path is a bit hidden and one can miss it easily. We did. Still, we got rewarded, once we found it. And for those who want to spend the night, there is a bed and breakfast room over the winery.
Good food, good music, great wine in an Italian villa type setting! Wine tasting available. Small bed and breakfast. Concerts on spring and summer Sunday evenings.
A family ran operation in a beautiful setting off the back roads of Texas. The secret to this jewel is the Sunday evening tasting and live music get together. This event was perfect for a warm night and awesome sunsets. Bring your own chairs or reserve a table for $10. The live music varies from the oldies to the up coming Eagles tribute band. There's dancing, wine tasting, and catered food. The owners and staff are very friendly and great hosts. Bernhardt winery has been doing this for many of years and have it dialed in to make sure that there is no stress and you have a fun filled romantic night. Go to there web site Bernhardt winery Texas, and check out the summer lawn concert info. Go and see, meet new friend you will not be disappointed.
My husband and I have enjoyed the Sunday evening concerts. We have brought out of state guests to the winery for a tasting and concerts. It's great to pack a picnic, purchase a bottle of their wine and enjoy a nice relaxing evening listening to the concert. The owners and the staff are very welcoming.
My fiancée and I made a great spontaneous decision to visit this winery. The staff was very helpful to us, since we are new to wine tasting. They did a great job explaining all the wines, and even gave us a free tour and sampling of their ports because we hung around awhile and had a glass of wine after our initial tasting. We watched from an outside sitting area while a group of people practiced their rehearsal for a wedding the next day, and it was just a peaceful day to relax and drink some delicious wine. I will definitely return to this place!
My husband and I got married here at Bernhardt this past November. The Bernardt's and their staff are Great people. They made our wedding go off without a hitch. Their B & B is great as well.)
I surprised my husband with an overnight stay at Bernhardt Winery in February 2012 (the moth/year selector wouldn't let me pick that)The owners were just great people! I can not say enough about them! We stayed in the upstairs Bed & Breakfast room and it was gorgeous! Included with our stay was a wine tasting which was really good and a cheese, cracker and fruit plate. We really enjoyed this little get away and hope to return soon!
Travelling from the United Kingdom regularly, we try to call at the Winery when Jerry presents a musical evening. He seems to attract first class performers and the nibbles and deserts are always excellent. Highly recomended. As I do not drink, I cannot comment on the wine !
