Took my family to Texas for Xmas holiday. We stayed 4 days at a dude ranch And 5 days at the San Antonio Marriott resort. I took day trips into the countryside and found this historic little town. The museum is small, but has a few good exhibits if you take time to read all the info posted on the showcases. My two favorites was the story of the man the town is named for. He has an interesting connection to the Alamo. The other story and exhibits were of seven Germany sisters that never married. The exhibits show pictures of them featured in Life magazine. One pic shows their father eating at a table alone. Old German families had tradition of father eating alone and then the family could eat. Another was the eldest daughter must marry before the 2nd can marry. The eldest didn't marry and the sisters decided none would. The pics show the community service they provided, how they dressed alike, some kept house and some worked the farm/ranch. In today's world they would have been a reality TV show. There was a lady working there that made the visit worthwhile. she was an entertaining story teller.

Much information about local history and very well organized, easy to follow and understand. Left with a better understanding of this area's past.

Very nice clean and new museum. A lot of effort has been to making this an upper class historical museum.

A very good small, locally oriented museum. A good place to pick up on the local color and history of the community. Start here to determine what you want to see or do in the area.

Seguin is a historically significant town, and the Heritage Museum has done a good job collection artifacts and information. The docents are knowledgeable and helpful. The hours are a bit quirky, but if you can catch them when they're open, it's worth a look.

I moved to Seguin in 1955 quickly meeting Mr. Otto Baenziger who owned and operated the Red and White Grocery Store. The red brick building that contained his store was built in 1898 with locally made bricks. In 1932 Mr. Otto bought the building expanding to produce a full size grocery store. In 1952 the Baenziger family moved to another location but retained ownership of the building. My first job was to help customers as they checked out at Baenziger's. Herold, Mr. Otto's son, hired me at 14 year old for fifty cents an hour. I worked ten hours on Saturday and 2 hours after school on weekdays. In 1992 the Baenziger family donated the building to create the Seguin-Guadalupe County Heritage Museum. Funds were raised enabling to open in 1997. Over one hundred members attended the 1998 official opening day celebration and the Heritage Museum was well on its way to becoming a cultural attraction for not only Seguin, but, as experience has now shown, for visitors from truly all over the United States and the world.Mr. Otto and his family made this museum possible. We thank them. When in Seguin make sure to stop in and see the great exhibits.
