Took me back to my childhood years. Went to this theatre when it was 10 cents for kids and 25 cents for adults. It has been remodeled but the balcony was left in it's original state. Splendid venue at which I would like to perform with my band when I move back to Seguin under the billing...The Prodigal Son Returns...Bobby G & Le' Deuce. Yeh!!!!

The theater is beautiful, recently renovated...great local productions ...easy to get to, close to everything downtown Seguin.

Sometimes there's a few stories. This little gem of a theater opened in 1931, during the town's oil boom. It was built by an oil-patch lawyer hoping to distract his spoiled son, whose misadventures with his airplane were alarming his mother. As a distraction, the Hollywood glamor failed, but no matter. Alvin Mueller Jr went on to become a much decorated World War II hero flying in the Pacific.The building's most fun feature is a vintage marquee tower reading ‘TEXAS’ with a flashing lone star on top, surrounded by hundreds of chasing bulbs. It's a fine survivor from a type of commercial signage soon displaced by neon. The brickwork facade is an exuberant mix, part Art Moderne, part Aztec or 'zig-zag' style, part Spanish Colonial. The gorgeous interior has a star-studded azure sky; lamps with mica shades line the walls.The home-town architect, Marvin Eickenroht, did post-graduate studies at M.I.T. Several of his other fine buildings still grace the town's streets. In the Great Depression, work dried up for architects, so Eickenroht became Texas head of H.A.B.S. (the Historical American Buildings Survey) and helped preserve records of hundreds of significant properties. The Texas Theatre has been lovingly restored and boasts good acoustics. Try to attend one of the theatrical or musical shows presented almost every weekend. Or, if any of the volunteers are there when you knock, you'll be given a fascinating tour.
