Decided to visit a state park we had not been to yet. Choke Canyon was our pick for a long weekend right in the middle of spring break weeks. Park was full, but sites very spacious, most are near the water. We stayed in a motorhome. Watched deer walk through our site near lake. Many activities for campers. Most were fishing. We participated in the archery class and had fun and learned a lot. Park has a large rec area; gym, tennis court, and basketball court. Many visit park for birding. The birding classes for the weekend were cancelled. Would have liked to go to those as well.We enjoyed the park, the lake, had great weather. Park is clean and well maintained.

I was down by choke not too long ago and it was awesome! We went catfishing one of the days I was down and we caught 16 keepers in about an hour and a half! It was very fun and an awesome play to fish and to see wildlife.

We stayed at Choke Canyon State park in our motorhome over a long weekend. The park is immaculate and very well maintained. The staff was nice and extremely helpful. If you want a lake with swimming activities, this park is not for you. If you want a nice relaxing campground with nature and wildlife and limited people this is definitely worth the drive.

Ya we took our 2 small dogs to the'swimming beach' for a cool off and the next day I went in to pay fit another few nights come to find out they have gators..Big ones.any way we're all alive and I find it funny that there is'no lifeguard on duty' signs along the road to camping but nothing said about the giant lizards..lol. grocery up before coming in. Nice place

We rode through recently and it is a well kept clean place with trails to walk on, plenty of animals we saw deer and lots of rabbits. The lake is really really low right now

We only stopped in to have a picnic lunch so take this review for that only. The picnic area we used was in the second area Calliham Park Unit and had large pavilion and bathroom facilities. It is by the water and there were LOTS of flies and mesquite trees and stickers. We ate quickly fighting the flies all the way:) There was a warm breeze but it didn't help. It was quiet as no one else was there. That is until the trash truck showed up and that was very noisy but hey they gotta pick up trash right:) The staff was courteous and helpful. The water level seemed low but maybe just the side of lake that we were on. This park is a distance from 37/281. We didn't go to the south shore but as we drove back it seemed to have more water there. There are signs to watch for alligators but we didn't see any. Did see a wild turkey. Don't know if we would go back here or not as nothing really caught our eye but then again we didn't go all over the place.

We've been to Choke Canyon several times. From using the cabins to this last time in our popup camper. The cabins are pretty basic, just a couple beds and some shelves and AC and are IMO in the best area of the grounds being so close to the water, although the lake levels are low, but which lake in Texas isn't low now. The campgrounds have 15/30/50 amp service as well as water that I thought tasted really good. The sites are level and have a grill, fire ing and a very nice covered picnic table patio. Lots of space in between sites and often you can't even see your neighbor due to the greenery. Restrooms are fine and are cleaned and stocked every morning. Wifi is available at the ranger office and at the auditorium for big groups. You're not supposed to and get fined, but i even hand fed some wild javelina. Deer roam in and out of campsites and rabbits galore. Has several nice trails for hiking and even a paved one for jogging. We love to go here when we can and would recommend to anyone.

This park is always well-maintained when we have visited. The rangers are helpful and are seen regularly making rounds throughout the park. There are scheduled nature events for the kids in the summer and lots things to do on your own. We enjoy fishing both from the shore and in a boat. We usually stay in the shelters to help with the Texas heat at night, but there is often a cool breeze as well. There isn't much around the park in way of grocery stores, so plan to bring what you need. The convenient store right outside the entrance sells plenty of ice and bait.

Perfect spot for a nice peaceful get away. It's very far from any main highways which is a good thing, when I went there were only a handful of people around, I think we saw more deer than people. Which was very nice too. For a state park it's not bad. Will return when it's a Ted bit cooler outside. Added to my list of camping spots.

This is a state park for campers and fishing folks. The lake is more like swamp and it is full of alligators. It was fun to visit one time, but we like to swim and alligators just don't mix.Wildlife was cool, turkeys, rabbits, deer, raccoons and alligators.

The camping sites were very nice. There is a really big lake you can fish in and take a same boat out on, but you can't swim in it because of the alligators in it. I went for the July 4th weekend and since you couldn't swim there wasn't anyway of getting out of the heat. Went it isn't so hot I sure it will be nicer.

We drove up from the Rio Grande Valley for a three day weekend. The campsite (112) with water and electric was generously spaced about 100' from our nearest neighbor. The restrooms were very clean despite it being a busy weekend. Plenty of people camping, yet it was quiet and peaceful after 10:00 pm. I liked seeing everyone from cabana renters to tent campers to Class A parkers with 50’' tvs. I saw a lot of boats, the fishing was good to fair. Don't forget anything, the nearest full service grocery store is an hour away. We preferred the back loop to the more crowded center section.

The Park is neat and clean and beautiful (when the lake is fuller than it is now) Campgrounds are very nice and large. Plenty of room for hiking and the lake is great for boating
