Museum was organized in the 60's by the citizens of this county. It represents wonderful collection of exhibits showing the life of people in this area - home life (clothing, toys, decoration...), medical instruments from 100 (more or less) years ago, military uniforms and weapons from different decades, art items, industrial achievements....Staff is really nice and helpful. Museum is situated in the center of a beautiful little town Waxahachie, known as a place where Hollywood movies and some TV series were filmed, for example "Walker - the Texas Ranger".
My wife and I had a great time looking through the museum and seeing how Waxahachie and the community has grown through the years. Perfect for an afternoon trip. A must visit if you are a resident of Waxahachie.
I did a quick run through but would love to spend more time the next time through. I gives a great example of history in this area.
Delivered a scrapbook that belonged to a local businessman's family covering the late 19th century into the mid 20th century. Paused briefly to look around. The sense of age in the old Masonic Lodge provides a lot of charm and atmosphere to this museum. Needed to give it more time. I'll go back again. A number of buildings on the square are beautifully preserved.
I little local history. Definitely worth a stop and make a donation. Lots of great stories in this building.
This museum is located on the corner across from the courthouse. Many, many original artifacts, pics showing the history of Waxahachie since early 1800's. You will find many items of interest and info. No charge. Do visit.
This little museum is free and its located in downtown (center) of Waxahachie. It's full of historical pictures and items. It felt awkward that there wasn't anyone there to explain or give us a mini tour, in fact there wasn't anyone there at all. Just visitors walking around. Parking is free and it is kids friendly.
I've stopped in this museum on a couple of occasions and have enjoyed it. It is a small museum, but it has a variety of displays and exhibits from different eras. Being a World War II buff, I was fascinated with some of the WW II displays that they had. The staff was friendly as well. If you visit, take some time to look at some of the unique items that they have for sale. I purchased a photographic print of the unique Waxahachie courthouse.
The lady running this free museum allowed my grandson to touch and hold some of the exhibits. She also allowed me to bring my small dog inside. Some very nice exhibits of civil war, the importance of cotton to Ennis County, baseball great from Waxahatchie, WW 1 stuff. The downtown of Waxahatchie is worth seeing.
My family enjoyed this small museum. The workers gave my kids candy and played on the telephones with my kids.
Ellis County Museum has some pretty interesting displays if you like that kind of thing. Probably younger kids wouldn't enjoy it, but if you're nostalgic and like to see older "country" type artifacts, it's interesting. The employees are very friendly and will give you lots of extra information if you ask. Thumbs up.
I took my girl scout group here one afternoon and they loved it! Very interesting - had lots of old items on display. They were fascinated with the telephone and the antique hair permer. They even have old high school yearbooks from Waxahachie there to look through. Great activity during the summer too - nice and cool in there.
This is a great little museum. Its just one large room but they have filled it with a great amount history. When we were there the museum was displaying all sorts of historical items from the Korean War. This will make pleasant thirty minutes to a hour of your day. And its free.
