The exhibit on western art is great! The most beautiful piece I saw though was the 11foot tall Virgin de Guadalupe.

We went to see the special exhibition of Rockefeller´s Picasso tapestries (which we LOVED!) but also toured the rest of the museum. The collection is surpisingly broad....lots of Latin America, but also Greek, Roman, Asian and other art works. We also enjoyed the other special exhibit of Asian pottery. A great stop.

One of our stops on the north end of the Riverwalk was the Museum of Art. The museum is a great place to spend a few hours, or even a day if you were so inclined. Our time was limited so we did a quick walk through of about 2 hours. There is a lot of history in this place. The cost to get in was 10 dollars per person. They had a special event they wanted another 10 per person for. There is so much to see we decided not to spend the extra money. The museum is certainly a good place to visit and a place to relax during your Riverwalk stroll.

We primarily visited this museum to see the Picasso Exhibit of beautiful wall size tapestries. There is even an area where you can try your hand at weaving! We were only able to view the first 2 levels of the museum because of time, but were impressed with what we saw!! We would recommend!

For a small city like ours you will find a nice collection here. My son would spend the whole day here. It' s located on the river and has a nice cafe.

This place is amazing. The Egyptian and Greek rooms are incredible. Love the real statues from Greece and the mummies from Egypt that the Museum has been gifted. Also the Ming Dynasty China collection is amazing. There are classes and events held all year that are awesome to show up at. The great thing to know is if we are ever bored there is somewhere we can go to enjoy ourselves. This place has it ALL. Just running through and not really paying attention to everything took us 6 hours so you can imagine the vastness of the collections. So just go to enjoy one collection at a time.

The building was rehabilitated to house a great collection of art, from Greek and Roman to contemporary. Beautiful building, great shop store for books and souvenirs.

We enjoyed this rainy day discovering artwork of many different styles. Vessels unearthed from many parts of the world, so delicate and yet primitive. Modern art, interesting thoughts by artists of today. Great masters who I have not heard of but now realize I love the light in their paintings. It was a good day.

In the early 1980s the historic Lone Star brewery was converted into an art museum. As the collections and program of the museum has grown new wings have been added to the complex. The collections have benefitted from the gift of some extraordinary private collections, notably of ancient art. Although there are relatively few 'masterpieces' of ancient Egyptian or Greco-Roman art, as study collections they are remarkable. Other notable collections include pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art. During my recent visit there were visiting exhibitions of Picasso tapestries and Irish silver. It is located just north of downtown and can easily be accessed by automobile, public transport, or by the river. Hearty souls can reach it along the River Walk from downtown.

I really enjoyed this museum. They have a nice collection of Latin American art, including an extensive collection from the Pre-Colombian period.

we enjoy modern and contemporary....there wasn't much there...at least in comparison to the whole content. there is a lot of really old relic type art. it kinda feels historic rather then art. we didn't pay the extra for the picasso....so maybe that would have helped make the experience better.

Great exhibits, good contemporary art and free from 10-12 on Sunday mornings! Looks like that have fun activities as well. Right on the Riverwalk - a very nice walk to downtown.

Great American and contemporary art, and we enjoyed a special exhibit of Picasso. We didn't get through the whole museum but loved getting there via the Riverwalk. It is so beautiful and not-touristy once you get out of the city. Museum is free Sunday morning (open at 10 AM).

Nice job and worth visiting, but if you have visited some of the big art museums in comparable cities, you will not be overwhelmed. I was a bit surpised at the lack of "pow" from the major art museum in America's 7th largest city. There are a few things that do stick - such as the black "Venus" sculpture, the sand Mandala, the Cycladic art (which is rarely seen outside of Greece but is surely some of the world's best primitive art) and the 5 remnants from Easter Island. I did spend an entire day there and was not disappointed, and would certainly recommend it to other, but need not go back myself.

From American History, to Chinese, to Greek, to Spanish. You get to see amazing sculptures, artifacts, and paintings from every party of history. It's educating, inspiring, and just down right interesting. Art lovers WELCOME!
