The Riverwalk is magnificent, right in the heart of the city. Wheelchair accessible for most of the way, with every hotel on the Riverwalk having an elevator from street level to the river. The River Barge tour has four different locations where you can buy tickets and board. But know that you can call them and if you are in a wheelchair, they will send a barge to your hotel on the Riverwalk to pick you up at no additional charge. We had two wheelchair people with us and they not only picked us up, but also returned us to the hotel (though they hadn't promised that, and I think if it had been busier, the return wouldn't have been offered). The driver, Samantha, was wonderful and everyone made sure our group felt welcome and secure. Alas, the speakers for the narrated tour face toward the boat, so those is the wheelchairs couldn't hear the tour: still, it was the highlight of our trip. Highly recommend.I will agree with one of the reviews below, that there is a homeless situation along the Riverwalk. Sadly, saw several who were obviously in need of mental medical care, talking to themselves and carrying their meager possessions in plastic grocery bags. But overall, the Riverwalk is a magnificent boon to the city.

Visiting this river was a A plus in my book the scenery was very peaceful, relaxing, and calming plus if you love nature scenery then this is the place for you :)

The San Antonio Riverwalk used to be an enjoyable walk: fine restaurants, fun bars, decent shops. On the 5th & 6th of March 2015, my wife and I experienced a different Riverwalk. The bar scene is far louder, the homeless population far larger, and little to no police presence on the Riverwalk itself (some officers above, in vehicles downtown).It is unfortunate that the city of San Antonio has not encouraged a safer environment for such a large revenue generator. With so many other better attractions to see in San Antonio, certainly don't spend more than a brief time in this one...

The boat rides, the walk along the banks, the river taxis, the restaurants, the people. What a place! We walked all the way out from downtown to Pear Springs ( a half mile past the lock) total probably 2 or 2 1/2 miles. Then took the River Taxi back ($15.00 for a 24 hour pass). Interesting ride through the locks and watching the scenery. The pass allows you to use the taxi for the rest of the 24 hours.

Take the boat ride, this is worthed to visit the downtown San Antonio, especially at sunset time. It is a very nice walk as well full of restaurants, bars, hotels. There is a theater and music was played that day. This is full of people and a show in itself.

Goes for 18 miles through the city. Quite charming but the weather was so bad when we were there that it was pretty deserted and no very lively. The biggest attraction in San Antonio and mus be fun when the weather is better.

Many hours were spent strolling the river, talking in the sights and sounds of San Antonio. There is an abundance of shops and dining.

I love the hotels, restaurants, shops, ambiance, but most of all I enjoy parking my car on a Fridayand not seeing it again until Sunday. There is so much to do along the river that there is no need to leave the area

The river is romantic and the tours are very informative, well worth the time and money to take. The water in the river is only about 4' deep, not very clean thanks in part to the ducks that swim in the water but as long as you just walk along the riverwalk, enjoy the music, shopping, food and drinks you should be fine. If you happen to be in San Antonio on St. Patrick's day, they'll dye to river even greener than it already is...

WE came on a weekend where the entire weekend was filled with drizzle! We made the best of it though, high heels and all to go eat close to the Hotel. We tried Acenar! Very delicious!

We took on of our power vacation weekends to the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Tx. We had a great time and got to eat in 10 different restaurants during our stay. The place was packed with people but we were able to get good service at all of the restaurants. We took the river boat ride, which I would recommend doing first to get a feel for the whole area..

Excellent tour, very informative and lots of history. Many beautiful sights. Great place to people watch.

We visit the city often and always make take time to walk the river and visit shops and restaurants. There is so much to do, including La Villata shops and art neighborhood, the Rivercenter Mall, and too many restaurants to mention. Your children will love the river tours and/or river taxis. Make sure to book a room on the river for east access to all the river has to offer. *TIP If you are not aware...the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk has a climate controlled path from the Riverwalk to street level facing the Alamo. There you will find more tourist attractions, and of course, the Alamo. *FYI If you are disabled you can access this area BUT it is very crowded and you may have a difficult time managing the crowds.

After walking the floor of a convention for 8 plus hours it's was wonderful to hit the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is loaded with cool shops, restaurants, bars and hotels. Don't visit San Antonio without spending a couple of days here.

High lights of my day were the lovely afternoon and evening strolls along the San Antonio River Walk. The architecture and colors are bold and brilliant. Under each overpass are mosaic maps of the local area. And a must "To Do" is to enjoy a meal along the river outside restaurants.
