The museum is on the transmountain pass (through the Franklin Mountains) and is located on the east side of the pass, it is next to the National Border Patrol Museum, so you can park at one museum and walk to the order via a path through the desert garden. The museum is small, but it has a nice collection of native artifacts from the region, and nearby regions. One room is artifacts, while another is displays/scenes of tribal life from different periods including hunting scenes and village scenes.Good visit to explain the pre-european history of the region.Museum is free, but donations are accepted.

There are large life size dioramas of life of the corn planters including their storage forms and cooking methods. I especially like the story of the runners of Mexico up to today. Plenty of baskets and pots with their ornamentation.

The museum is a small, but nice collection of El Paso artifacts and information. It goes back into early history and has several diorama type displays depicting early area life.

I was in El Paso on business and this museum was the only exploring I got to do. It's what I will remember most about my limited time in El Paso. The museum is dedicated to educating the visitor about the prehistoric and more recent historical lives of the various Indians in the El Paso area. There are plenty of artifacts to see, all of which are nicely labeled in easy-to-understand language. My favorite was the pottery - it was incredible to see how intricate some of the oldest pottery could be.The museum was free but accepted donations. It has a nice little gift shop as well. The museum itself is set at the base of a beautiful mountainous area. The building is surrounded by gardens with local plants and cacti (and, apparently, snakes!). I wish I had had time to walk through the trails. Bottom line: this place is the sort of local museum that has great displays and is worthy of your patronage.

Museum is filled with displays and well documented. Used to have more informative people around who were actual archaeology buffs and could answer any question. The young women there lacked the knowledge. Had a nice selection of books. Surprised by all the trash around the museum and wondered why the people working in the museum didn't come outside and pick it up as it was a huge distraction.

This free small museum has a lot going for it. Desert landscape gardens with quite a lot of labeled plants on your way in. Nature walk, which we didn't do, and a covered picnic area behind it. Lots of interesting exhibits. Very much enjoyed our visit.

The museum is easy to get too and includes history inside and neat plants outside. The place takes donations only. Parking is free and it is right beside the border patrol museum.

If you have a 1/2 hour or an hour to spare, this is worth a stop. Nice exhibit explaining Indian & Spanish heritage in the area, history, etc. with models of different types of dwellings, artifacts, pottery, etc.

We were on vacation and spent a day in El Paso and decided to include this museum in our day plans. What a nice little museum. AND IT'S FREE!! Plenty of parking and it's right next to the Border Patrol Museum (which we did not visit.) The temporary exhibit on Hohokam culture is really excellent. The permanent exhibits are nicely done.As a grandma, I think it would be an especially good place to take an intellectually curious child age 10-15. The life sized dioramas are very appealing. Also, there isn't so much written information in the exhibits that it gets tedious and time consuming.

A free museum (but would love donations) that tells a comprehensive pre-history and history of the El Paso area-Indians and more-plus it has a great garden with name tags for their local plants. My son and I had already take pictures of plants that I didn't recognize-and we found we had a Texas Rainbow cactus!

The Museum of Archaeology is located on the east side of the Franklin Mountains, in desert terrain very much like the surroundings of the pre-Columbian societies it depicts. There are frequent public presentations and other events, plus the annual Poppies Festival. Well worth visiting and supporting!

There are some great full size displays of ancient dwellings but the rest of the museum was kind of disorganized. The displays were super wordy and didn't really flow so it was hard to place the different peoples and cultures in relationship to each other in place or time.

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth the effort to find it. It is perfectly sized for families with children or those with just a casual interest, but informative enough for most history buffs (myself included). The displays are well organized and informative. There is a lot of reading, and not a lot of "hands on" stuff, but the small size more than makes up for this.

We had never been to this museum during the many years we lived there. The history of El Paso is quite interesting. The displays are well done and hold your attention. Wish we had gone here earlier because the downtown museums are more appealing now. The downtown area is much more secure and cleaner than it was years ago. There are major improvements taking place.

I go to this museum about once a year when I am in town to see the latest exhibit. I find this place fascinating for such a small museum. The displays are interesting and informative. They also have a lot of labeled plants around the outside of the museum. There are also some trails but since a sign said "watch for snakes" and I was alone, without boots on previous visits I haven't done it yet. After you see the museum it is definitely worth driving the Transmountain road even if is not in the direction you are needing to go. Length of time for the visit does not include trails...for that add some extra time as appropriTe
