Impressed with some of the entertainment that it draws. Seating is comfortable and the acoustics are good. I'd recommend this but they do need more dining in the area.
Nice building and venue . Not sure why the washroom facilities are as deficient as they are given the fact the reno is of recent vintage. Not as professionally run a venue as we've seen in most cities . Not sure why as there appear to be large numbers of staff compared to most. That aside worth a visit.
I've been here a few times. I love coming back as much as possible. Seen Nutcracker-Jersey Boys-Concerts. It's a treat to catch a function here. A must GO. *something to remember,"THERE IS MORE THAN ONE RESTROOM."Second ,larger restroom located down a small hallway past the men's restroom. ALL THE WAY DWN.
One of the last of the great movie theater palaces, complete with a large balcony, plush maroon seats, a Wurlitzer organ, and fabulous 30s-style lounge restrooms. Spanish style design a la Granada or Sevilla. Hosts the symphony, touring Broadway shows, the classic film festival.
This venue is good for movies, with the caveat that concession options stink. That said, I would URGE anyone considering attending a music performance here to JUMP at the chance. What a great place for a "Rock Show"!
Classic theatre has been restored to the grandeur of what it was like when first built. Great venue to see live theatre, concerts and movies.
My son was in town and we took this tour of The Plaza. It's such a beautiful place, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see a little bit of history. The architecture is phenomenal. It's a free tour and lasts a little over an hour. Very worth the time.
One thing that draws me to the Plaza Theater is that I went there as a kid (late50's - early 60's.) I remember it looked pretty cool then, but I mainly remember the lights in the ceiling - Stars, like you were outside at night. The theater had fallen into disuse and was deteriorating when a group jumped in and saved it. Today, it has been restored to its original grandeur. It is absolutely beautiful. If you are interested in the history of the theater, call and ask about one of their tours. If you simply want to experience a wonderful night, either go to a movie or one of the plays or the annual Classic Film Festival. Absolutely worth your time. There is a fee for the movies, etc. (reasonable,) but the tour is free.
Nice at night time. We stayed at the hotel, ate at a fabulous little restaurant and shopped at many shops!
I loved the atmosphere. Its small but beautiful. The seats on the lower level toward the back under the balcony are too far.
The Plaza is an extremely thoughtful and well done restoration of a magnificent former movie and vaudeville theatre. It took extreme efforts of the entire community to accomplish this feat. They were very faithful to the original and comes with ornate columns, twinkling stars and a theatre organ that rises from the depths! It is the home of the very talented El Paso Symphony, traveling Broadway shows and other events. They also host the Film Festival each year that has received high acclaim. They give tours of the facility. It is truly remarkable and a true testament of a community preserving their history.
The interior of the Plaza Theater is elegantly decorated and it is rather small and cozy. The only drawback that I can see is the stage itself is fairly small. If you like to feel up close to the entertainers, then this is a perfect venue for you.
I went there for the Classic Films Festival, place is well maintained and is quite an experience; only thing is seats are small so after a while I got tired and this distracted me from the film.
The history in this building shows as soon as you walk in. Beautiful designs and art on the wall. I just saw the Blue Man Group there and it was fun, exciting and inviting. I will be visiting the theatre again soon. There are so many great shows coming up.
The Plaza is an amazing theater, and the experience is always top notch, particularly for the Plaza Classic Film Festival. Short introductions before the films and also talks hosted by some of the films stars are simply one-of-a-kind. The pricing is very reasonable, and the venue is not called the "Showcase of the Southwest" for nothing. If you are in town while the Festival is going there is absolutely no excuse not to go!
