Well, its a beginning to an even greater hike up the canyon. For me, why hang out in the cowboy cabin, when that canyon up yonder beckons!

The Homer Wilson Ranch house is the center of the largest and most significant sheep ranch in the Big Bend. The ranch is located on Blue Creek on the Ross Maxwell Scenic Road. The parking area and interpretive sign are well marked. At the interpretive sign (be sure to read it) one can see the Ranch house in the valley. The trail down and across the valley is easy with no obstacles. Unfortunately, the Park Service is not maintaining the historical structures and they are showing signs of neglect. But one can still enter the buildings and think upon what living there would have been like in the early 40’s.Historical objects have been almost entirely removed from the area, so you will just have to use your imagination as to what was there. Even without the interest items, the house is well worth the visit.Round trip to the house and return can easily be accomplished in 1 hour. Note that the hike to the ranch house is easy, without brush and rocks to contend with.
