rio grande village nature trail

Nice trail near the campground which leads to nice views of the Rio Grande and Mexico. Takes only 15 minutes to hike it but then you'll want to stay awhile to take in the view.

This has a great view of across the river - can see a small village on the Mexican side and the Rio Grande campside on the US side - both are pretty spectacular views. The hike is easy and short, but definitely worth it. We parked by the restrooms behind campsite 18 because we didn't know how strict they were w/ parking. We saw a maintenance worker and he said that was okay. There are some spots where Mexicans leave their handcrafted items and a jar for money. We're told not to buy anything, so we didn't... some of it was pretty cool.

This is an easy trail. Perhaps the easiest of the entire park. Sunset trip through here is specially rewarding as one can see the last sun rays hit the mountains behind you giving them a reddish glow. You can either hike to the river or to an overlook.

We hiked this a couple of times during our stay. Do this in the evening at sunset for great pics of the Sierra del Carmens.

This is a very short and easy walk across a board walk across the rio grande river to a hilside with a short climb to a lookout point. The views of the rio grande are quite nice at sunrise and sunset.

with good views of cottonwoods, the Rio Grande and Boquillas del Carmen, Mexico (and their donkeys!). Many birds dwell in this area so take your binoculars for a good look.

The park service has built a very nice bridge over the beaver pond that leads to a fairly easy trail with nice views of the park and the village of Boquillas in Mexico. We saw a few birds and were fascinated by the Tilapia fish that huddled together right at the surface of the water. If you had enough time, this would be a great place to hang out and watch nature - especially in the fall/spring bird migration periods. If you're on this side of the park, you should take a few minutes and enjoy this easy trail.

I strolled round this trail in 20 minutes seeing some birds and overlooking the river. A little bit meh after the staggering views of other areas but in the middle of the camp site so probably a beautiful start or end to a day of hiking

I count the Rio Grande Village Nature Trail at sunset as one of the top three* easy attractions in the park. You leave the popular campground, cross a spring-fed lake, then climb a short hill to the top. From here, you see Boquillas Canyon, the Mexican city of Boquillas the magnificent Sierra del Carmen, the Rio Grande making a sweeping turn from north to east, and sunset over the high Chisos.Allow about 20 minutes each way walking and about 30 minutes just sitting up top.*Other park attractions are 1) Santa Elena Canyon in the morning, 2) The Window at sunset, and 4) Boquillas at sunset.

There's a fairly new boardwalk that takes you over the wet area, and the trail itself is very well-maintained and signed. A spur that takes you right down to the banks of the Rio Grande is worth a few extra minutes, but the highlight is the spectacular view of the Rio Grande & into Mexico after a brief climb near the end of the walk.

We were at the trail at the wrong time and saw much more and varied wildlife within a few hundred yards of the village store .... but I suspect it's all in the timing and chance. Great views of roadrunner collecting nesting material whihc we watched for some time.

I was very dissapointed with this trail. The park invested in a nice woodwalk but it lasted only for a few yards and I did not saw any wildlife in the water. I enjoyed seeing "carrisos" that grow nest to the rivers in Mexico.

Beautiful scenery next to the Rio Grande river. The mudd along the river is quite thick so be careful. It also has some huge thorn bushes/trees.
