Amazing bike trails along the watefront. Or just go for a walk. There were rowing races when we visited and we enjoyed taking those in.
Kayaking is an essential, you get an hour and it's fun. The 10 mile trail is fun and clear, with many active people swarming the sections of it. Great place for a picnic
My wife and I visited Austin for the first time about two months ago. The overall experience was good but something really disturbed us - the amount of trash floating on lake(s) and river. It is hard to believe Austin is actually the capital of Texas. We could blame the situation on the mayor but citizens and business organizations have to take responsibility and step in to change the situation. Education wouldn't hurt either.
Tons to do along and on this part of the Colorado River. From biking, walking and jogging along the wonderfully maintained trails to dinner cruises on the "lake." We also rented a kayak for a day! And lot of wildlife.
A walk around this area reveals what a true gem it is and is beautiful and unspoiled area of the downtown region
Take a walk around the lake - as short or long as you like.Rent kayaks to paddle around, walk your dog, peoplewatch... really, this is the gem of both nature and peoplewatching in the heart of downtown. Wander Tonw Lake awhile, and you'll get a feel for the heartbeat of Austin.
This is one of the best things about Austin, TX. There is a large granite running trail that goes around the lake, there are places you can rent kayaks, canoes, and SUPs. People ride, walk, run, and take their dogs and kids. Great place to enjoy the outdoors.
The lake has walking / biking trails on both sides. Very nice walk with picturesque views of the city.
Town Lake is so pretty. It was a lot of fun seeing the swan boats, the paddleboarders, and the kayakers. When the weather is good in Texas.....it's GREAT!
energy of the downtown and town lake. boating, music, and wide range of restaurants. great walking, bike and running trail.
People watching is fun. We love to ride our bikes around the entire lake, about 10 miles, with pleasant scenery and places to stop for refreshment.
Town lake water is always dirty. It is a shame too because it could be such a beautiful place. There are lots of cleanup attempts by the local citizens, but there is just too much pollution.
Please beware that many of the photos above that are labeled "Town Lake" are actually of Lake Austin. You cannot waterski on Town Lake.
We are just visiting Austin and we went there on a Sunday so I may not have the best perception but it was actually very crowded, lots of bikes and dogs and just an accident waiting to happen! Yes you can exercise but you are constantly dodging obstacles. We also just want d to see the river. A few places but not great. I'm sure there are better places than where we were. All in all though it was a great day to be outside.
Town Lake provides a beautiful view of the Colorado River which runs through the central part of the city. There are paddle board, canoe, and bike rentals along the trail, but you'll see walkers, runners, and sun worshippers as well. Take a walk around Town Lake and enjoy the sites.
