My son and wife loved this play, they said it was funny and would see it again if they had they chance.
When we lived in Austin, Zach (Scott) was one of our favorite places to see theatre. Their repertoire runs from contemporary new plays (next in their season is Robert Schenkaan's play about LBJ, utterly relevant to the Austin setting), to musicals directed with inventive new concepts, to the occasional novelty revue or seasonal offering (various Christmas shows, etc.). The beautiful new Topfer Theatre has really upped the ante on Zach, and they delivered perfectly with a lively production of PETER AND THE STAR CATCHER. Excellent acting, great use of the large new proscenium stage, all of which delighted the audience. There's a bar in the lobby that nicely complements Austin's laid back, let's-have-fun vibe, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the location (on Lamar near Town Lake) gives the new theatre a destination-plus feeling. See anything that's on--you won't be disappointed.
What a nice facility....honestly, I had an enjoyable time with my daughter and her friends. We did not buy the most expensive seats in the house and still were able to see perfectly....anywhere inthat theater and you will have a tremendous view. Sound quality is wonderful...absolutely recommend it on your next stay in Austin. There is also a bar where drinks are sold in the lobbyarea - nice for pre-mingling and after showtime. Enjoy!
We saw A Christmas Carol at the Zach. The theater is extremely well designed with clean sightlines and good sound. The play was incredible, with the audience joining into the music and fun. We have such good memories of the show and can't wait to see another.
Saw A Christmas Carol the Musical - which was very Moulin Rouge-esque incorporating modern pop tunes and jazzed up Christmas carols. The cast was very talented.
Dave Steakley has outdone himself with this year's Christmas offering. "A Christmas Carol" comes to life with such craft and care that it is easy to imagine this as an Austin tradition for years to come. At the end of the performance, I looked around the theater to see nearly everyone out of their seats, wide smiles on their faces, truly transformed by this hopeful story of redemption and the holiday spirit.
I took my granddaughter with me to see this production last night and can honestly say that this was one of the best productions I have ever seen! The cast was wonderful. The songs were artfully crafted to fit in with the story line and had the audience rocking to the beat. We didn't want it to end. My only disappointment was not having a CD of the songs. If it had been offered I imagine they would have sold out. I hope that this becomes a yearly tradition as I would return in a heartbeat.
The theater is located at a beautiful spot in the park! We went to see "This beautiful life" were the same actor interprets all the 37 characters! I really enjoyed it! But friend didn't... At all! So, i recommend you to go and judge for yourself :)
We saw A Year with Frog and Toad and was really surprised with the talent in the production. It was lots of dancing and singing with humor added in. The actors were up close and friendly with great eye contact and expressions.
The Zack Scott is Austins up and coming venue for the fine arts. The modern building hosts some amazing shows both local and traveling and its one of the few fine arts theatres you can bring your drink into. Great acoustics and sight lines as well
A great new facility and top-notch production.Go often. If you got some extra love, volunteer at the Zach. You can get to help out and see shows.
We attended Zach's for a recent production of the King and I. It was our first time in the new theater which is really first class. What was truly impressive, was the production itself. From the talented actors to costumes, sets, orchestra, all were excellent. We're looking forward to going again.
I love Zach Theatre! They are no rinky dink operation. They hire professional actors, have the best lighting, costumes, and sound designers, and sets. It really is a wonderful experience. I have been to 5 shows, and plan on seeing every show they have.Tickets can be pricey, but well worth the cost!
Great setting for an intimate concert experience. The sound/acoustics is/are better than very good (not excellent, but pretty close) and the stage is readily visible from any seat in the house.See a show there. Play a show there. Definitely worth the years it may take you to get on that stage...
Musical in this venue was outstanding for sound and performance. Quality shows; great way to spend a afternoon if attending the matinee performance. Theatre lines are long for ladies lounges, but surprisingly moved quickly within the intermission time allotted. Cannot say the same for the refreshment line.
