I love this place! I bring all my friends and family here when they come to town. In the spring is the best time to visit because the gardens are in bloom. Make sure to make an appointment to your the house.

Bayou Bend and the gardens are beyond lovely. The docents do a great job of enhancing one's viewing pleasure in the house.

This place is great! When we almost got in, there wasn't any parking left but the front guy told us to park near the softball field. There was a shuttle that took us to the nature center. Also they had a tree planting demonstration there and lots of arts and crafts for children. we had a wonderful time there. The weather was beautiful. Highly recommend this place.

As a Houstonian for many years, this is a place I go back to visit at least once a year. Its especially gorgeous in late March and early April when azaleas, bridal wreath and wisteria are blooming in the gardens. The gardens are lovely all year but especially at that time. The house can be toured and has many lovely antiques. It a great place to take out of town guest who enjoy home decor and gardens. The gardens can be entered without charge. Nice place to take your lunch in spring and fall.

We visited the gardens this past weekend and were impressed. I bet they are ten times better in spring/summer/fall. Didn't get into the house we only had a bit of time so can't comment. Was shocked at the bridge we had to cross I thought it was kind of fun but others may not.

The Hogg Mansion was a lovely visit. There's a great collection of furniture and other household items from different periods of American history. There are tours by volunteer docents who are knowledgeable and friendly. A worthwhile visit.

We visited the collection and gardens while our family was in town. The attraction is nestled between memorial park and Allen parkway. The house has been preserved beautifully. It took us around 30 minutes to tour the house which is open to the public on the 1st floor. Our visit to the house could have been enhanced by more details being provided on the pieces that we were viewing and some more pertinent historical information about the previous owners. The gardens are perfectly manicured and maintained. We spent an additional half an hour walking round and admiring them. Well worth a visit if you have visitors from out if town or you have a spare afternoon.

We were here as part of a road trip from Austin to New Orleans. It's a beautiful garden and well worth a visit. We didn't see the house and got tickets only for the garden ($5). The garden would obviously be at its best at spring time. But we still enjoyed walking around the place. There were two picnic benches at the parking and we played a game of seven wonders and had a small picnic just outside the garden. It was perfect!

This is such a beautiful home and is made even more special by the amazing grounds. My ladies organization went as a group and sauntered through the beeathtakingly beautiful grounds for several hours. Highly recommend this as a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of Houston

From the security guards to the ticket seller to the docent, the entire staff seemed unpleasant and unwelcoming. The docent kept us within arms reach every minute of the one hour tour, so when one or the other of us needed a break from her monotonous, loss-for-words style of describing things, we were chastened to stay in the room with her, don't even step out into the hallway even though there is a security guard in virtually every open space. I live in Houston and brought out of town guests here and was mortified at how unwelcome they were made to feel. Aside from that, the Yuletide atmosphere they advertised involved a few Christmas trees and putting some antique toys in the rooms. That may have been authentic in the time periods of the furnishings, but it was ho-hum for those of us who are not furniture-history enthusiasts. The gardens are pretty and we were allowed to wander freely through the 14 acres.

It is worth going to as a destination because it is so pretty but beware of a few things before you go. Currently the bridge to get to the gardens is closed so you have to stop at the visitors center first for your tickets and then drive around to the temporary entrance. Then the entrance fee to the gardens, which was very reasonable only $5, was only for the gardens not for the house tour (also not expained) so we found it frustrating. We didn't drive back around to get the tickets to tour the house. I think if I read a review like this it would be helpful to know that you have to drive to the visitors center buy the tickets to the gardens AND the house tour and then drive over to the alternate entrance while they fix the bridge.Besides the staff problems they have the gardens are maintained beautifully and are worth seeing and it is a lovely oasis right in the heart of downtown.
