We were running late but saw that it was closing at 4:00. Got there at 3:30 and it was closed. Also Google maps was wrong. "601" is suppose to be on the left but it was on the right, just after Iron Horse B&B and a city park. No sign in road but look for big metal building.
I "borrowed" the title The Real Deal from another reviewer, but this museum is exactly that. The building is subpar and one can quickly assess that it needs money for existing displays, but the donated items are plentiful and amazing. This museum will break your heart because it brings to life the realities of war. There is an original telegram to tell a woman her brother died in action. There is a captured enemy flag that is signed by the Americans who won that battle. I could imagine the fallen comrades who did not get to celebrate the signing of the flag. There are so many more astounding exhibits, I would encourage anyone to experience this museum.
This is a small museum with a lot of artifacts from many different wars. There were two older gentlemen working there who were extremely nice and were more than happy to answer any questions we had. If you get a chance it's definitely worth stopping by.
The U.S. Veterans Museum contained artifacts from all of the wars, even the Confederate War. Granbury was definitely part of the south and a number of nearby towns, as well as Granbury, were named for Confederate officers. The volunteer at the museum was very nice and cared deeply about the museum. If you have an interest in history or the military, you should make time to visit.
staffed by volunteers, and filled with items for anyone with an interest in military history from the distant past until the present day. this is the real deal, a great place to visit. The local police and fire service, as well as the navy are also well represented in a very respectful manner.
For a small town and new museum it's rather good and I would encourage everyone that goes to Granbury to visit. The staff was very helpful with lots of information.
This veteran's museum is small but very interesting. It's a veteran's museum and worthy of your support. Please visit it!!!
This museum is really a work in progress. They have a huge number of artifacts but lack the space or the volunteers to really organize the displays. This is one of those museums that is probably operating on a shoestring. We had a wonderful docent who is a retired Air Force LTC as our guide and we truly enjoyed our visit here. The only reason that I am not rating it higher is because the displays do need a bit of work and organization. It is worth a trip here, though. There is no fee, although donations are most appreciated.
for a small town the meseum ws very well equiped to show the early days of Grandbery we enjoyed our visit there.would go again
