My wife and I stumbled across the Little Snake River Museum while on a wandering motorcycle trip of four western states in July, 2014. This little gem turned into one of the highlights of our journey. Full of fascinating artifacts, including the main museum (the Savery, WY high school and elementary school until 1972), a trappers cabin and a complete storefront street. The host could not have been more accommodating and took the time to show us the highlights of the main museum. It was like having the curator bring you on a private tour. If you are in the area, or somewhere in the vicinity, you should not miss the Little Snake River Museum.
Amazing and wonderful!! It is unbelievable that this tiny community has provided such an outstanding glimpse backward in time. The location is picturesque, and the individual "houses" are beautifully furnished with authentic artifacts and furnishings. The curator and the staff are to be heartily congratulated.
On the road between Encampment, WY. and Baggs, WY is a very small stop in the road to relax and experience a very fine museum and the ability to go into a number of historical old buildings which have been moved and completely refurbished and they include all of artifacts of the time. You can go in on your own and spend as much time as you want. Children can get the feel of living in the early west and what the pioneering spirit was all about.
This museum is packed full of TONS of interesting artifacts -- make the drive and spend the time in the many outbuildings! A true surprise!
Worth the time to go see. Need several hours to take it all in.It is a part of our history most do not know. Something for everyone. They take a great deal of pride in unique piece of western history. Folks there are super. They are expanding all the time. Go see it.
Savary has a population of 25, but a museum that is just a wonderful representation of all that is good about the state of Wyoming.
