The site is marked to show where the wagon boxes were arranged in an oval. There is a monument and a good view of the mountains where the wood cutters were working. I drove several miles on dirt roads to get there, but it was worth the effort. I spent probably 45 minutes there. There are quite a few signs and descriptions.
If you watch history tv shows or are an avid history buff, you will enjoy this monument. Much of what happened as the West was won came down to a few important battles. This was one that flys under the radar. If you find yourself having traveled this far into the Big Horns, you won't want to miss an opportunity to get up close to history.
Historical - has improved over the last few years. Would recommend for history buffs. Convenenient
The Wagon Box Fight Monument depicts a chilling and fascinating day in the 19th Century. The monument is very simple, but the fight was epic in its scale and intensity. It is fascinating to visit in the morning and imagine the scene. Great stop for anyone interested in the history of the West.
