Neat capitol that was meeting as I visited. I asked if there was a unique feature to the building and was told there was a particular stair support that was installed upside down, because no place is prefect. Found it!The Indian statue in front is one of four and has a neat history.
Unfortunately were were passing through briefly but made a point to side track our drive and visit the Wyoming State Capitol. It was a clear sunny September day, which offered great photos. Not very busy and easy access to a beautiful state capitol.
Coming from larger states "back East" this relatively small state capitol building offers amazing access to the visitor - no guards, no metal detectors, no x-ray machines, etc. We just strolled up the front steps and in the door and could have wandered directly into the governor's office. The architecture and sculpture was very nice - particularly in the rotunda and the two legislative chambers. There is a nice sense of history with pictures of each legislative session on the walls. Staff was very welcoming and friendly throughout.
Tells the story of Wyoming's role in women's suffrage! She was the first woman justice of the peace in the nation, and Wyoming led the nation in women's suffrage. Not suffering!
This is a very beautiful building and the tour thruout is very nice you get to see some historical stuff and many many georgious archectural details.
As far as Cheyenne attractions go, this is one of the best. Like most state capitol buildings, it's free to visit, and most of the building is open for you to see. Throughout the interior is beautiful, intricate woodwork, along with some amazing stained glass.
As a photographer one of my favorite places to photograph is state capitol buildings, inside and out. This is a gorgeous building with great sculptures around the grounds. Without any special permission or permits, I was allowed to bring in my tripod and make photographs, which I did first thing in the morning. Everyone was very friendly.
This is a beautiful building. We spent about an hour on the self-guided tour, and enjoyed the architecture and plentiful old photos and Wyoming history exhibited. Definitely worth seeing in Cheyenne.
if there were guided tours I would have rated this excellent, free self guided tour, all staff very pleasant and helpful. 2 hour on street parking near the building.plenty of exhibits, paintings and information panels around the walls , don't miss the mural on the third floor committee room wall ( thanks to the maintenance man for highlighting its contents)well worth the effort to visit. The Wyoming museum is just across the street. The lady on the information desk was also most helpful.
This building looks large on the outside but when you get in it seems much smaller. Having worked for the Illinois legislature I'm a fan of capitol building so we've been to many. This is a nice capitol building for a small state. Nothing too ornate, very understated. Unfortunately there are only self-guided tours so we wandered on our own with a brochure. We did meet a very helpful State Senator who answered a number of my questions. We were also encouraged to go into the Governor's office to see some of the artwork in there. Overall it was a nice experience but I wish there had been a tour offered.
I had a nice walk to the State Capital and enjoyed the statues outside. Nice setting, I didnt have time to go in , but didnt have much time
What a nice gold dome. Reminds me of my home state capitol. Walk though the front door and there is the governor's office. Real nice woodwork. Fun to walk around and go into both chambers. Very well preserved state capitol. Be sure to pick up the post cards showing the stages of the capitol to present day. Whether a visitor or a resident, go to the capitol building.
I enjoyed the State Capitol through the eyes of our 9yo son who loved the statues, the steps and the gold dome. In a few short moments I was able to get some basic Wyoming history. It's worth a visit, if passing through the area.
This is a beautiful state capital and a little history never hurts a person. This is directly down from the train station and great views the Train Station or Capital from the train station. This is right near the governers mansion as well. The ground make a good picnic stop before or after touring the capital. The dome is beautiful and it is well taken care of.
Good looking small state capitol with nice grounds and statues. Can't miss it with its gold dome. we didn't go inside.
