This was a great ride for our twelve year old granddaughter who loves horses. The staff was very helpful a quick at getting all the riders ready and on the trail. Red was the trail boss and did a great job of explaining the ride and making sure everyone was safe and comfortable. Trail was hilly and looked rough but the horses are well trained and maneuvered the terrain quite well. The ride was a good experience.
What a neat ride up and down a mountain side. Not your normal trail ride. Good with older kids that have never been riding too.
We just got back from the 2 hour trail ride at Cedar Mountain Trail Rides. The owner & trail guides are super friendly & the horses are wonderful. But keep in mind you go up & down the mountain. If you are unsure about heights or being on a rocky trail, I would rethink this. I am glad I did it but don't think I'd ever do it again. But if you are comfortable with horses & steep trails, this is for you!! Our daughter (age 8) loves horses & has had some horse riding lessons but ended up scared & riding back down with my husband. Our son who is 11 had a wonderful time & nothing bothered him.Cash only, no credit cards. And the trail guides work for tips so remember that. I would call ahead to make sure they can take you out. They said no reservations but sometimes you end up waiting a bit. Bring your camera..... you get excellent pictures of Cody from very far up. Comparing the prices of other trail rides, I think this is the better deal.
My family has owned and ridden many horses. And we've gone on many trail rides, but this is definitely the best in the area!! We did the 2-hour trail ride with Skeeter who was hilarious. He took us up in to the mountains where we got an amazing view of Cody and Heart Mountain. The horses are just spunky enough so that it's not a boring ride either. We will definitely go again! Also, they allow you to ride double with kids 6 and under, but none of the others in the area will let you. (my 6 year-old nephew rode with my sister, and my 4 year-old nephew rode with my dad)
This trail ride is a REAL Mountain Trail Ride. The sights are breath taking the guides friendly the horses well taken care of and completely safe!! Loved this experience and was great for our young children and grandma! Bob is a real cowboy who knows his business and his horses--decently priced! Don't forget to tip your guide!
Not knowing what to expect, since my husband and I have never been on a horse, we really enjoyed the beautiful ride up the rocky trail with our guide, Dannie. She was very informative about the horses we were riding and about the history of the area. The views were spectacular. Bob, who is the owner of the horses was a very friendly man. For the $35 for an hour's ride was worth every cent!
I highly recommend riding with Cedar Mountain! Bob's horses are beautiful, well kept animals not worn down nags that some outfitters use. We rode with Colt and he was a wonderful guide. I loved the ride up the mountain; it was breath taking , challenging, and exciting! My horse Turbo, was beautiful and sweet. Colt is also a bull rider at the rodeo and a true cowboy! We so enjoyed our two hour ride. I'm ready to go back and do it all again! Thank you to Bob, Colt, and the horses for the biggest highlight of my vacation!
This trip was not what I was expecting, but that was my fault for not doing more research. It was definitely fun nonetheless. My boyfriend and kids loved it, while I was a little hesitant, but still had fun. The cost is $35 for an hour and they only accept cash....something we didn't know until we got there. Luckily, we had enough cash with us to cover the cost of four of us as we had planned on paying with a debit card. The horses are all very docile, but some more spirited than others. The staff seem extremely knowlegable. The only thing that concerned me was that we all were in a long line and the guide was at the front of the line, so those of us in back couldn't always hear the directions that she was giving us. Also, there were a couploe of more inexperienced riders in the middle of the line... a young boy and an older gentlemen. They seemed to really struggle in getting their horses to fall in line and keep walking but they were too far back for the guide to really help them much. When their horses would stop or go off the trail, our horses would try to follow them as we were in the back. This was not really a problem much unless we were on some of the very steep and rocky downslopes....then it proved to be a bit scary. This is definitely not a trail ride for someon looking for a nice relaxing horseride......but a must do for someone looking for a little bit more of adventure that is still within a safe setting.
Looking for a calm, easy ride? Not here! Steep and rocky. Just hold on tight and let your horse do the work. We took a two hour, 8 AM ride and loved every minute of it. Well worth the $50 a piece. Our 10 yr old guide, yes ten, was awesome! She knows the horses, the trails and rides in the rodeo. She even sang us a few country songs. Full of personality. Absolutely adorable.
My family of four (which includes 2 early teens) went for a one-hour ride, although we originally paid for two hours. We quickly realized that two hours would be too long once we started out on the trail. We expected level ground and a nice meandering trail. Instead, we were taken up the side of a mountain on a very narrow and extremely rock-filled trail. Two of the horses were a little too spirited for the inexperienced riders in our family and I found it disconcerting that a 13-year old girl was our trail guide, although she was very nice. I DID think that she should've given some instructions along the way, but she was pretty quiet and whenever we were concerned about something that was happening, she just said it's ok. This ride is not for the faint of heart because the horses could easily slide down the mountain if they barely stepped off the trail. Maybe we just weren't prepared for a real Wyoming trail ride, but I wouldn't do it again. We were given a partial refund for changing our minds and only doing the one hour. (It was $25 per person per hour).
i had a great experience with my ride.....i did the 2 hr ride & we went up into the mountain......they did a great job matching my horse for me...i had a great guy named blue.....i am by no means a pro rider - my experience is only with trail rides when i travel & this ride was a totally new experience for me - i say that cuz it was all up & down steep trails that were on cliffs in the mountains- the trails were very rocky too - i called it a very rugged terrain ....not to scare anyone but this was a definite "E" ticket ride for me LOL....i am used to more flat terrain rides thru woods & fields & streams & wider trails so all the steep trails were very new to me but the good news is cedar mountain did a great ride - beautiful views & always trust ur horse - he will get u thru the ride no worries - its amazing how they have such great grace on these trails............the guide was very attentive & knew i was new to this kind of trail & always made sure i was ok............hmmmm i wonder if it was the look of terror as i was hugging the cliffs LOL - JK - i was very relaxed cuz i knew i had trust in my horse & it was fun !!!!! the only reason i reviewed what kind of trails there were was not to steer anyone away it was to let the beginner rider know what kind of trail it was just in case they have a fear of heights - if u have a fear of heights i wouldnt recommend this ride - maybe the 1 hour ride doesnt go up as far - just my thought......but again thanx blue for keeping me safe :):)
These guys know how to show a new rider everything they need to know to ride safely. I took my son there for his first ride and by the time he came down the mountain he wanted to ride all day. CB was very helpful and called us when he had a guide ready to go. This was well worth the money (and a bargain as well). Can't wait to go back
We were absolutely bowled over by the caring and experience of the "cowboys" and "cowgirls" here. And the scenery during the ride was just indescribably beautiful. I have 3 young boys, aged 6 and under - the 6 yr old being a special needs boy. The guide catered to him while making sure that everyone else had a safe and fun ride too. A monumental experience, one that took very special people to do with such ease - an experience we will never ever forget. I just cannot say enough good about this place and its people. We're sure to return again and again.
On a visit to Cody, we went on a trail ride with this outfit, located just past the Cody Rodeo and only about a mile or so outside of town. The owner and guides were the nicest guys and were first and foremost concerned about safety and choosing the right horses for my son and I. We went on a one hour ride and the guide (Bob) was friendly and told us about the area, riding and was just a great guy! It was a fun experience and the views from the mountain trail were breathtaking. Go see these guys when you're in Cody!
