山在黄石的东北侧,从南往北开的话海拔逐渐升高,风景也突然从秀丽的河川变成了高原风光,比较壮阔,落日尤其美丽,在修路所以开车要注意安全

Worth the hard work! The hike took a total of about 4 hrs, but the view at the end is worth every second of pain. It's a great look out point with a ranger station. Highly recommend !!!

The tip of Mount Washburn looked tiny from the Chittenden Road parking lot! I am so proud and glad I hiked this! It is strenuous but not too bad if you take your pace and hike according to your own condition as when the time you need to take a break just do it and not to force yourself. It took us 1.5 hours to get to the top and 45 minute back to the parking lot. The view is spectacular! Don't miss this!

This is a beautiful hike up to a lookout. It is well worth the time and effort. The wild flowers are incredible as are the white pines. The view is gorgeous. You may see big horn sheep.

This hike was recommended by a friend and I'll offer the same advice. Don't miss this hike. I've hiked all over the US and this is one of my top 2 or 3 hikes. It's really that terrific. You start from either side. On the advice of the park rangers we started up the old service road. The first 100 yards were the steepest. After that we followed the road just putting one foot in front of the other. At about the 30% point we could see the observation tower at the top which gave us something to keep focused on, but the views started out great and only got better and better. This is a high altitude hike and if you're not accustomed to the altitude allow extra time. It took us about 2.5 hours to get to the top and 90 minutes to get back down. In July, the fields were chock full of wildflowers. We counted more than 25 different varieties of flowers. We saw some bear sign on trees on the way up the mountain but no bears. We did see mountain goats and bighorn sheep, ground squirrels, pika and many different birds. At the top is an enclosed observation tower. There is a restroom as well. There is an outdoor observation deck above. Because Mt Washburn is a "bachelor" mountain, it isn't connected to other mountains and this affords you a panoramic and unparalleled view in nearly 360 degrees. As far as preparation, I recommend: Good hiking footwear (this doesn't have to be boots but should at least have good tread because the trail is rocky with loose gravel). Dress for weather about 10 degrees cooler than when you start. Expect constant wind, even in summer it's chilly. Finally, take adequate water and maybe some snacks. My son took two packages of cookies and I think I offered him about two bucks a cookie at the top and they were the best cookies I ate all summer.Bear spray? I asked the ranger as this was the only remote hike we undertook in the entire park. The ranger was non-commital but did offer that bears were commonly seen on Mt Washburn only after the tourist season was over. Further, the amount of daily traffic in the summer made it fairly unlikely we'd see a bear on the mountain. Use your own discretion but we did not take bear spray.Very highly recommended hike. Not for everyone, but most people in reasonable shape can make it if they take their time. This may be the top hike in all of Yellowstone.

We hiked up to the top of Mount Washburn and the view was panoramic of the park. It's much colder on top so take warm clothes, and we got a bit of afternoon rain. When we were at the top we hiked through a heard of long horn sheep which was lots of fun. At the top there's a rangers' station with maps and binoculars so you know what you're seeing. On the hike up and down there are several fields full of flowers. Plan enough time to get down in daylight. Strenuous.

I did this hike in September 2014. I expected a hard climb but if you have been in the area for a few days and have acclimatised to being at 8,000ft and you regularly do some hill climbing then this one should be relatively easy for you, I chose the route from Dunraven Pass. The hike up was up gradual switchbacks all the way which made it easy to gain the 1400ft or so to the top over about 3 miles. Choose a clear calm day if you can and enjoy the incredible views across south Yellowstone and to the Tetons as you climb up. Once on the top you can see northern Yelllowstone. There is a fire Lookout Tower on top and you can go to the viewing platform there and probably meet the fire lookout man too! A deservedly popular hike that you should not miss if you visit Yellowstone.

Fantastic view and for me the hike was a challenge. But the trail was excellent and even the steep parts were wide enough that my fear of heights did not kick in. You could see everything! I was glad we chose this one for our "challenge" walk although the altitude knocked my brother out at 9800+ feet.

We chose to do the 5 mile side to the summit but didn't make it all the way. My hubby had altitude breathing issues due to the steepness of the trail. But it was the multitude of bear tracks that convinced me to give it up. You'll want to take bear spray with you.

I have taken many hikes in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Smoky Mountains, and in Ireland. But, the Mount Washburn hike to the summit is now my personal favorite.

We drove to the top of Mount Washburn and enjoyed a picnic lunch with spectacular views. A most memorable lunch indeed.

It may take two hours to get up for this 70 year old but it was a rewarding trip and destination for the view--best in the park--you can see the Tetons and Mammoth! We took the old service road which was more gradual but in the open sun and it afforded a view all the way up. The top offers a toilet facility, and enclosed area with maps for cold or windy days. What a feeling of accomplishment to get to the top of this mountain. It is a busy trail even in September! Lots of good company.

This is a relatively challenging day hike, but there are a lot of rewarding views and it's a lot of fun. Well worth the time. Plan for 4 hours.

A steady but not too steep ascent from the Dunraven car park rewards you with a fantastic view - hope for a clear day!

We hiked the Chittenden Trail (can also hike Dunraven Pass). It is mostly exposed, not many trees. It was VERY windy and a bit chilly when we did this hike, so make sure you check the weather before you head out. This is a pretty steep hike and bears are often seen in this area, so be careful. The views from the top are absolutely stunning!
