Beautiful but again very hot if visiting late summer and mid day, go and see this amazing geographical wonder early morning or later in evening.
In the summer, the crowds make this seem like Disneyworld not one of the most unique geologic areas and ecologies in the world. In the winter, you can't just drive here so it limits the crowds a lot. The Xanterra snow coach drivers and park staff do a great job in the winter of casually educating visitors.
We walked around the upper geyser basin as part of our Tauck winter wonderland tour. Amazing scenery with all the thermal activity. Old Faithful is the crown jewel, but there are many other sights to see. So picturesque.
It is a very unique experience to see this basin area, the color's were like an artist's palette. I greatly enjoyed most of the stops along the loop road.
This is my favorite place to visit in Yellowstone. You can see a lot of things from the road, which means they are crowded. Go on some of the hikes and suddenly the crowds disappear.
Skip Old Faithful, a mile or so up the road is the Grand Prismatic. It will haunt your dreams with its boiling pots of intense color. Close up or hike above and look down - spectacular.
The Upper Geyser Basin area of Yellowstone is a magical place if you can catch it just right. A blanket of snow on the ground and cold Winter air mixed with steam from the geysers on a sunny day cannot be matched. Magical.
There is nothing not to like about anything at Yellowstone National Park. The views all around the park of all the sulpher geysers are really neat.
Walking and driving through Yellowstone you feel like you are in another world because the Geyser's and water pools are like something you never thought you would see in person.
I really liked the ability to walk on the boardwalks along the upper geyser basin. The scenery here is quite lovely and you can see many geysers and hot springs.
Everything is here; large geysers seen from afar, small geysers right next to the boardwalk, hot springs, everything. Start with the crowd at Old Faithful, which everyone who visits should see at least once. Cross the Firehole River to Geyser hill for a short loop where the crowd spreads out. Beyond that the crowd really thins out as you head towards Morning Glory Pool and Biscuit or Black Sand Basin. If you are up for a little climbing the trail to Observation Point and Solitary Geyser is well worth it. Try to catch Riverside Geyser erupting too; it is very predictable and is among the most scenic in the parkThis area can be overcrowded with visitors but there is room to spread out and is still well worth it. Watch out for bison too.
Many visitors watch Old Faithful erupt, then they get back in their cars and drive away. That would be a big mistake, as there are all sorts of picturesque hot springs and geysers along the Upper Geyser Basin boardwalks. Take the time to stroll at least some of these paths, and go to the Visitors Center to check out when other geysers are scheduled to erupt. None of them are as dependable as Old Faithful, but some of them can be more spectacular. In particular, Grand and Castle Geysers are worth the wait.
