Had been a member for many years but had to quit due to health reasons. Always enjoyed playing the course but customer service has been spotty. Course is in decent shape but overpriced compared to other courses in the area.

As my wife and I had some spare time, we stopped to check out this golf course and stayed to play a round of golf.It is located just south of Belen, NM, and on the east side of the Rio Grande. It is a public course. The pro shop was not immediately evident as it is behind a small conference center and a restaurant. This is almost exclusively a "locals" golf course in a residential area. Several people stopped to chat with us and ask us where we were from. It is a very friendly place.As seniors, the cost to us, with carts, was $23 each. Great value. Also, we were able to walk on, and we didn't catch up to a foursome ahead of us until the 13th hole.It is an old-style design course. It is not a "desert" course nor is it a "target" course—it is more "grip it and rip it." Playing from the middle of 3 tees, the course measures a little less than 6500 yards. Most of the landing areas off the tees are generous, and most of the fairways are wide with relatively little elevation change. It is not a boring course, however as there are several severe doglegs, and many strategically placed trees, ponds, and bunkers to make this a challenging course for a bogey golfer like myself. Plus, for a central New Mexico course, there is a bunch of trees.While there is only about 10 yards difference between the middle tees and the championship tees, there is often 50 to 100 yards from the middle tees to the "ladies" tees. This made my wife very happy. Especially when I had to hit over or skirt large trees to hit the fairway, and she had a perfect head-on view.As for the condition of the course, well ... not so good when we visited (early spring), as they were aerating the fairways and greens. I suspect that the conditions will be much better in a couple of weeks. In summary, while there are lots of nice golf courses in the Albuquerque area, this is one of the friendliest, it provides a nice challenge on an interesting layout, it is easy to get on, and you can't beat the price.
