We played there the second week of September and it was excellent. The views on the back nine are excellent. The course is well laid out and required moving the ball left and right. The conditions on the course were the best of the courses we played that week. We ate lunch at the restaurant after the round and it was ok.
South of Santa Fe is a southwestern gem of golf. Every hole gives the golfer a moment to pause and take in the beauty of the course and the land. Then, one must choose your golf shot wisely. Elevation changes, wind can play havoc with your game. Course is well maintained. Multiple tee boxes and everyone one gives challenge to the game. Very well equipped pro shop and great little Restuarant/cafe. Also has a practice range. A true New Mexico golf gem in the middle of the desert.
The 'pickings' are slim in this area but the lunch that we had here was quite good. The steak sandwich on Indian fry bread with 'the works' was very tasty and served quickly and piping hot.
I had a great round at Cochiti. To start, a great practice area. The short game is past the range, and you can extend to probably 100 yards. The first few holes are nothing memorable, but then the course winds through the hills to offer a unique experience. Most holes offered you a few options off the tee, and then gave you several ways to attack the hole. The bent grass greens were very quick, and the putts rolled true. There was a lot of break that took me about 14 holes to figure out. CONSVery picky, but I thought the yardage book was bland. It was helpful off the tee, but offered nothing after that. It simply marked where the already marked sprinkler heads were. I would not have minded a cart girl if I had not brought a cooler with water/sodas. In all this was the most relaxing and serene round of golf I've played in a long time. The gentleman in the pro shop was welcoming and helpful, and I can't wait to bring friends out to this course.
