It was a great place to see and well worth pulling over to investigate. We enjoyed every inch of the Jemez Mountains and Scenic Byway.
This attraction is right on the roadside on Highway 4 (Jemez Mountain Trail). Minerals from the hot springs have accumulated over time to build an interesting and scenic "dam" on the Jemez River. It would be improved by a good sign and some paved parking, but it is definitely worth a quick stop to check it out. No facilities here.
This is right off the main road. Very photogenic. Worth a little drive out of the way since the scenery in the entire area is enjoyable.
Strong sulfur smell but the falls through the rocks are impressive. Be careful trying to climb up for a better view, slippery.
Interesting rock formations right on the road - easy access! You can climb around the area for an up close view.
This was a nice, unplanned stop. My boys had a great time climbing on and crossing over the bridge formation. There are little cave like features where they crawled into and climbed on. The stream is beautiful and it's very pretty and peaceful. It is worth the stop.
Great little spot to picnic, swim and enjoy. Drive is nice, peaceful, calming. No complaints!! Favorite childhood memory....
This is worth a stop--especially since you're going to be looking at it anyway as you drive by & it's much safer to stop! This is a land bridge created over a great deal of time by a natural soda spring.
Crawl up into little cave and see where spring comes out, looks like fish scales where minerals have deposited.
Be sure to see both sides of the dam. Rather unusual feature of a calcium carbonate dam with a fast moving stream.
Very cool formation! Stop and take a good look around. Little hot spring at side of road - didn't soak there though :)
It's an interesting geological feature, and certainly worth a stop and walk around a bit. I have a feeling that in the summer it would be a great spot to take a dip.
Our son lived in Albuquerque for five years and my wife and I visited him and toured the area quite a few times while he lived there. We really enjoy Jemez Springs and the surrounding area and whenever we visit, we stop at the Soda Dam. Why not- it’s right on the main road to Jemez Springs, there’s no charge, and it’s a neat spot to visit. Only note of caution- be careful crossing the road if you park across the road. I checked the other reviews of Soda Dam and really can’t add too much except my recommendation to stop and see it- spend a little time walking/hiking around and enjoying the water. Be sure to crawl up to the cave area.
Soda Dam is located at the north end of the Village of Jemez Springs, New Mexico. The Jemez River flows through this unique travertine limestone formation. A must see when traveling through the heart of the Jemez!
Very intriguing to see and smell (!) a waterfall with healing minerals flowing off of a cliff and coming thru the 'pores' of the earth around it. So worth the stop....
