cow trail art studio

Many things are closed on Monday in Silver City so we were looking for something to do. This artist's studio is open to the public Monday afternoons. It is outside Silver City a few miles on a dirt road.The first exciting thing we saw was 15 elk along the road. The artist said they are in the area fairly often and there are most always deer around. The art studio is new but styled after an old adobe mission. We got there while the artist was working and she showed us how she mixed her paints and used sketches to start her paintings. There was a lot of finished artwork around to look at. One thing we did not expect was that there were some old work by dead artists that made this stop more like going into a back room of an Art Museum except here everything was carefully filed or framed. The artist told us she has collected art from the 19th century and early 20th century for over 40 years. Most of it is by American artists and most of it is original prints. We spent more time here than expected but the artwork and the stories about the artists were really interesting. We wound up having a great day and even learned a lot. Nice and relaxed! We don't live that far away but did not know about this place till we got directions at the Silver City Visitor Center.
