The Lion's Tail is one formation within the caverns. Not sure why it has a separate review from the entire attraction. It's pretty cool--actually does look like a lion's tail hanging from the ceiling.
Very interesting! So fun to see how different people interpret various formations. This DOES look like a lions tail.
Okay, you're walking along a dimly lit path in a very large cave in North America. It's cool, it's dark, you round a corner, one thing you don't expect to find is a lion's tail dangling in front of you!Wait, it isn't moving, in fact it's technically a stalactite with what they call "popcorn" on near thelower end that looks like the longer fur at the end of a lion's tail. Still, who was crawling around inhere year's ago, in eerie silence and thought of that name?
We got frustrated trying to figure out which formation was the lion's tail...then we looked up and what do you know...it looks just like a the tail of a lion ;)
These formations were so unique and amazingly like a lion's tail. Can't imagine how they named them . . . LOL!
We bought the Carlsbad Caverns book at the book store which explained how this formation came into existence.
It's really looked like a lion's tail. For my family, we always like to play a game to guess the name of the bizzard stones in the cavern. Use your imagination, you might find a better name for those stalagmites and stalactites.
This cool formation is just part of the big room area. There is more Bigger formations in the big room so I dont get why It has to be a stand-along review.
A stalactite with quite a unique form. As soon as you see "the lion's tail", you'll know you're looking at it!
The Lions Tail looked exactly like a Lions tail. It would have been better had it been lit better and more description about its formation. We were fortunate to have had a ranger on another tour talk about the tail and its formation otherwise we would have missed it and not understood its formation
Don't understand why some of these are stand-along review, as it is just one of the stops when viewing the Big Room. This is one of the best formation in the Cavern and and is one of the many stops as you do you self-guided tour abound the cavern.
One of a kind speleotherm - delicately beautiful and unique..... Well worth the walk and wait.....We came from Chicago JUST to tour the caves for a few days and it was Great! The Hall of the White Giant tour was outstanding but extremely strenuous - this can be enjoyed by all.
I have been in other caves before and my expectatins were low but the Carlsbad Caverns were splendid. The park staff was very helpfull, the grounds and visitor center were top notch and my tour was excellent.
This amazing stalactite formation looks exactly like it's name, and can be difficult to take decent photos of. Just the fact that these stalactites were formed in such fashion is enough to warrant the time to see them.
Not sure why this is in a separate category, it is just one of the many formations in the big room; but it does look just like a lion's tail!
