Just take a day or even one half of a day to stroll both sides of the street. Galleries upon galleries....Quiet andlovely. Dive into some of the neighborhoods behind the main galleries..so many other artists tucked away.
Came with teenagers. Wanted them to experience/develop an appreciation for the art here. Walking the galleries along Canyon Road absolutely did that! The variety and depth were great. Don't leave Santa Fe without coming here.
You can enjoy any genre of art you like on Canyon Road. I would refrain from visiting every gallery, there are way too many to do in one day. Most gallerists we're welcoming and friendly and many of them carry exciting contemporary artists. Do some homework first and immerse yourself in the world of art!
This is a must-visit street for the art lovers. If you've worn yourself out walking the streets of central Santa Fe and it's galleries and shops, it may be worthwhile to drive the relatively short distance to Canyon Road, park and stroll once again. Galleries here tend to be more upscale than downtown, with a wide variety of media on display. As an added bonus, the architecture, especially the unique doors, are on display as well. History meets culture on this fine street. There are a few cafes scattered along the way to afford a break from the browsing.
Very nice stroll - wonderful galleries, helpful staffs. Pretty scenery and architectures. Visit almost any time of year - Santa Fe stays cool in the summer.
If you like art, you have to visit this street. It has wonderful galleries and there are more here than in any other city that I have ever visited. This is where they are concentrated and it is simply wonderful to spend the day going in and out of these wonderful shops and galleries. If you hate art do not come here. If, like me, you love art then definitely save some time for this great experience.
After many years of visiting Santa Fe, this was our first visit to the famous Canyon Road Galleries. A few of our favorites were MEI gallery, they specialize in young Native American artists. We had the pleasure of meeting Fernando and Del two of the artists represented by this gallery. My husband even purchased on of Del Crufman's pieces. We will enjoy watching these artists emerge.Morning star Gallery is also a must see for Native American and Tribal art. They have in their collection hand beaded and quilled moccasins dating back to the 1880. While on Canyon Rd, make sure you stop in the the Tea House for Lunch or an afternoon snack. They have an impressive 184 teas to choose from.
It is basically a few miles of art shops and a few restaurants. If you are looking for things to do you might like it. You can park and walk around and enjoy all of the different art work!
Weave your way down Canyon Road, passing by or entering galleries. Enjoy a soy Chai latte (or your favorite coffee beverage) and sit on the patio or take it with you down the road. It was a nice afternoon stroll to see local artisans and their masterpieces and do something away from the plaza.
Be prepared to stay longer than you expected! The art available for viewing and purchase is widely varied and will please everybody but those few who just hate art! Just go and drink it all in.
Great display of local artisans. Would like to have had more time. We enjoyed our morning walk down Canyon Rd. Many shops had not opened for the day.
I quite enjoyed walking on Canyon Road, Santa Fe. Next to the church was an exhibition of big wind chimes/wind mills... made of metal by a local artist. It was beautiful. We sat on a terrace at a local cafe to enjoy a nucciola coffee. Not exactly like the ones served at the Nucciola Doctor in Napoli, Italy but enjoyable nonetheless.
A walk down this street and a stopping in at the galleries is a great experience and a great way to get a feel for Santa Fe. The art is very diversified and beautiful. Don't miss this walk.
My husband and I have been to Santa Fe many times. Our day on Canyon Road is always at the heart of our trip. I don't know of any place else quite like it. The galleries are varied in style. Everyone is always nice and welcoming whether you purchase or not. Prepare to spend the day meandering up and down Canyon Road. It truly is visual paradise!
Prepare for a lot of walking. We browsed most if not all of the galleries here, stayed longer in the ones we enjoyed and quickly walked out in the ones that did not interest us. It was fun to hear various artists talked about their works with enthusiasm. There were really a lot of amazing but expensive art here and boy wasn't I lucky to control myself.
