We went for an impromptu ski weekend. It was a great ski experience! Skied my first double black diamond! We hadn't been to Taos in a while, and I had forgotten how challenging it is! The runs were well groomed, and we found some fun tree runs. There's a new lift that goes to the top of Kachina Peak for the more experienced skier. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. All in all it was a really good weekend.

The 3 out of 5 of the times I came here to ski, I was insulted by a Lift Ticket scanner, a ticket booth sales person, AND the information desk person. I gathered that there is just an overall trend of condescending attitudes among the staff at the Taos Ski Valley. It's either "pay - or go away."As a Taos local, and especially as a fellow staff at a nearby lodge in the ski valley, I expected much more courtesy from those people. Real big deterrent as a new skiier. I'd rather go to AngelFire where people aren't riding their high horses all the time.

If you don't want the Vail experience, you appreciate the old ski town genre, friendly people and a great variety of ski terrain Taos is for you! I've been skiing all over north america since 1973 and this was one of the best mountains I've had the pleasure to make a few turns on. Three truly outstanding ski days - steep and deep, fantastic groomers and views that take your breath away. Definitely coming back to Taos! Don't worry about staying close to town - the drive in and out of the park everyday is all part of the eye candy filled experience.

Taos is a great mountain to ski but the ski patrol are not reliable. I would never book a trip to Taos because they are unable to open the mountain. There is something off about the Ski Patrol and I don't have enough time in my life to think about it. I will just ski somewhere else. There are plenty of ski resorts that I can rely on to open the mountain when it snows. Taos is unreliable. Do not book a family trip here because they might not open the mountain even though they will still sell you a lift ticket. I am bringing my 100+ member ski club somewhere else next year.

Taos is a great mountain, but it was designed for Skiers. The runs are steep and narrow. I still enjoy this mountain as a snowboarder, but wouldn't recommend it to a novice snowboarder. The new Kachina lift is challenging and really fun! They have put a lot of money into the lodge and it looks great!

What's wrong with Taos ski patrol? I am an experienced skier and a ski instructor; I skied inbounds and backcountry in US East and West, Canada, Chile and Europe. I've finally come to ski Taos. I was incredibly lucky to arrive in the middle of a 60" snowstorm and the conditions were epic. The mountain offers steep, sustained and variable terrain that any good skier can only dream off and it is surprisingly uncrowded. In short, I had a blast. However, the ski patrol at Taos behaves different from any other place I've ever been to. They are rude, overprotective, and confusing. They keep inbounds glades closed due to "insufficient coverage (the base was >50"). They open glades and, then close them again next day due to no reason. They keep many glades closed throughout the season without any explanation. On a day of (expected) 20" snowfall, only the bottom lift was open till noon. Next day, after 10" more, even the bottom lift was closed till 10am. Two days after the snow storm was done, large sections of the mountain were still closed. Heavily advertised Kachina lift was open for only few days this year.The boards announcing trail and lift status are few and located in inconvenient places. To summarize, if you come to Taos to ski off-piste, be prepared to get frustrated.And yet, the rangers seemed to be hard working, exhausted and trying their best to open the mountain. Quite likely, it is more of a management issue, underfunding combined with bossy attitude.

Let me start out by saying that our family loves to ski at Taos. We have a condo unit there, our family has all taken some excellent lessons, and we have enjoyed Taos for almost twenty years. Just a quick side note regarding the difficulty of the mountain, if you are unsure, take a lesson. It is one of the best in the nation and no matter your level, you will improve and learn!Ok, so here is my beef. On two Sunday's in a row after well predicted snowfalls (no surprise storm), the main lift did not start until over thirty minutes past its scheduled time. Also none of the other lifts opened for hours! With so much of the terrain shut down the lines were incredibly long and the runs that were open got hammered. I hope that the ski area can find a way to open more terrain in a timely fashion.

Let's understand one thing right from the start, Taos is about the skiing first and foremost. If you want a vacation where you can show off your new clothes or bag, head to Aspen or Vail. If you want to lay around a hotel and have room service breakfast, then head to the spa, then ski for an hour before heading back to the hot tub, Taos is not for you. If on the other hand you are a skier of any level, including never evers, and want to learn, Taos is for you. I highly recommend everyone take lessons from the amazing staff at TSV. Even the best expert level skier come to Taos for tune ups. Further if you are someone that skis mostly green runs your skills and enjoyment will skyrocket with a few hours a day of instruction. Every year I ski in the ski week lesson program to fine tune my skiing. It is amazing how much better I ski after leaving than before I arrived. Taos Ski Valley is also in the process of a huge renovation of their base area and just added new lift accessible terrain. Investment dollars are being spent and soon the base area will be completely new. I always get a chuckle at those who say they prefer Angel Fire to Taos. I have a home in Angel Fire but ski Taos 10-1 over AF. AF is great if you like lift lines, skiing the same runs each day, less snow on average, and the college frat scene. Why anyone would take small kids or beginner skiers (greens) to AF is beyond me. Keep it up Taos, we can't wait to see the updates.

Overall, this place is a great ski destination. The runs are challenging, not horribly crowded, lots of variety and has a small mountain feel. The snow was a bit packed down when I went but not icy. Only remark is to bring cash. While most restaurants will take cards, cash is king. Will definitely be going back.

If you are looking for that small base area with an alpine village feel... well this is it! But that doesn't mean this is not a great mountain! There is sure plenty of terrains to challenge any ability levels!

Two great days of skiing one with 8 inches of new snow, one in bright sun shine. Varied terrains for every level. When I was reading the status of the mountain it said that 6 of 13 lifts were open and that was a bit disappointing to read. But it's really not that bad because lifts are doubled up between two seaters (not running) and quad lifts right next to them (running). The only disappointment was that even after we got all the new snow they didn't open the new lift. Lots of food services all over the mountain for no matter where you find yourself!

We spent a week at TSV and enjoyed hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing. We ate at a different place each evening and thought the service and people were very nice and helpful. It's a small place and very low key, but that was part of the attraction.

It was a warm, snowy day. Deep powder and plenty of it. What a spot. I couldn't believe hardly anyone was there!!! It was as though we owned the resort. So beautiful and so exhilarating.

I have loved Taos Ski Valley since I first started skiing 35 years ago. It is not crowded and NOT FOR BEGINNERS. My son and I are both avid skiers and love the steepness of Taos and the amazing number of challenging blacks and blues. We were treated so well by everyone working on the mountain. We rented out skis at Cottam's and the service there was tremendous. I made a reservation online which gave us a 10% discount and that meant they had everything ready for us when we walked in the door. Double bonus!! Come to Taos if you have at least moderate skill and want to get away from the dangers of skiing around people who are learning.

We visited Taos Ski Valley for a week and skied here for one of the days so far. For the price compared to Keystone where we typically go, you really can't beat it. They have plenty of runs and very little to no lines.Pros:Reasonably priced compared to Keystone and other well known resortsNo linesShuttles from the parking area to near the lifts which isn't far to begin withCon:VERY bad for beginners as green runs are more like blues at other resortsCould offer better discounts on lift passed mid week - we are going back to Sipapu on Wednesday as an entire car can get lift passed for the day for only $50 (there are 5 of us so the savings is huge and Sipapu is MUCH better for beginners which we have 3 of)All in all I loved Taos Ski Valley but I've been skiing for over 30 years. This is not, and I repeat, NOT the place for beginners!
