We took the trip to Millburn just to see the play "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike", and discovered a beautiful Paper Mill Playhouse theater. We have been told by our friends for many years to go to the Paper Mill Playhouse. Let me tell you some of the best things about this place. First is the location, Beautiful. Then there is the fire place. We were there in February with snow all around, and they had the fire place working. Parking was managed and controlled by a team of attendants. The house was roomy, with room where I was sitting to put both hands and a hat between me and the seat in front of me. There is a little store where you can pick up the "T" shirt or coffee mug. The front doors were a little heavy. There is a bar. Trip Tip: We wanted to have dinner at that charming expensive restaurant with the white table cloths, right there next to the theater, the Carriage House, but it was not open until 5:30, well after the end of the play. We would have had to wait an hour and a half. What to do. We went to Red Lobster.
I love Paper Mill Playhouse as a rule. Great performances. lovely theatre. But save your money and skip this performance. It was just ok. The set design was quite nice, and the actors were good. But the story line lacked luster, and unless you caught every word, the dialogue is constant and missing something means you've got these people standing there making no sense! ( Thankful we sat close and could hear)Unless you have tickets already, save your money and go see one of their musicals.
My sisters and I went to see Elf at the Papermill Playhouse and were completely taken back by how excellent the performance was. She could not stop laughing and smiling. I highly recommend for this to be back next year for all to enjoy. Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color?
I frequently go to the Paper Mill Playhouse to watch any shows that interest me. I always expect something meaningful, funny, or downright sad (depending on the play), and the Paper Mill Playhouse always passes them with flying colors. I've always walked to the Paper Mill Playhouse, but many people find the parking difficult. I suggest people go very early if they want a good spot. The parking people are very helpful and will try to make your visit nicer/easier.
I went there as a night out expecting little more than local theater. Wow was I surprised. Truly broadway caliber productions and talent. Beautiful little theater, however, in many respects it is a better, more comfortable theater than many broadway houses. Beyond surprised, definitely worth a visit.
Just came back from seeing Elf the Musical at Paper Mill Playhouse. I've been trying to get to this theater for 2 years. It was worth the wait. The theater offered family friendly amenities and also offered a look back at the history of shows, actors, and costumes from previous shows. We went opening night and there was also a pre-show talk with the director.
We recently saw Can-Can. It was wonderful. The acting and singing and dancing were very good. Great revival. More importantly, the Paper Mill Playhouse is a great place for theater and a night out. Perfect location for New Jersey residents. It is set up well and it is comfortable. The prices are reasonable. Also one can eat at a nearby restaurant in town or in a neighboring toen, either before or after the show. I recommend this theater.
"Can-Can" with words and music by Cole Porter was wonderful and appears to head towards Broadway in the spring 2015. The performers were great with the dancing and music doing proud to Cole Porter. The sound in our location was clear (balcony), the view lines also clear, but the upstairs looks to be getting a bit shabby, particularly the rugs that are lumpy and could possibly be harmful to an older audience who may fall. This is a possible safety ISSUE--Please fix!
Okay, but a bit amateurish. Can't see this cast on Broadway. Several shows we have seen in recent years have been lacking. Nice facility but woefully lacking in restroom facility. There is no reason women should have to stand thirty in line during intermission. Have to give them credit for consistently very good sets.
Love the shows at the Paper Mill Playhouse. This is the second year of our subscription and each of the shows we have seen have been terrific! Honeymoon In Vegas, which we saw last year with Tony Danza, is now on Broadway. The quality of the performances is great and it is easy to get to; Millburn is a great little town to walk around or have a nice meal before or after the show.
Just saw Can Can here last week! Beautiful theater and wonderful show! Hope it truly heads to Broadway!
We have seen couple shows there for the past four years. This theater is not that big but with a lot of history and they always have great performance. We just saw Can-Can with Kate Baldwin as leading role. What a great production!
I have seen several shows here and I've always loved them. The talent and production values are Broadway caliber.
This is a theatre with lots of history and wonderful productions that, with more frequency, make their way from Millburn directly to Broadway. (Ever hear of "Newsies?" It was on stage at Papermill first!) First-rate productions, great casts - sometimes well-known stars - and an excellent time supporting the arts.
Cheaper, Easier to get to, park, & professional production values. Only wish they would stage more up-to-date musicals & advertize actors appearing in them.
