Lovely place to walk, esp. in the spring. A step back in Montclair time. Very worth the trip - so beautiful.

Our daughter invited me to the Christmas Open House at the Van Vleck House & Gardens, which was something I had always wanted to do but somehow never got there. The house were decorated beautifully but was disappointed that most of the grounds were not opened at that time. I guess I have to go back.

Free to get in. It is a nice plot of land that is maintained well. If you live in the area it is worth checking out. We were not allowed to roam around the actual house as there was an event that day, however it id look beautiful.

The house and grounds are beautiful, but if someone were visiting town with limited time, I might sat skip it unless there is a specific event going on. When I visited, there was no event going on so I was able to leisurely walk the grounds. I would like to attend an event there to see what it's like.

These institutions are what make Montclair unique. This lovely rambling house with its spread out gardens is a great place to have a deep conversation with a friend while strolling through old-world surroundings. Beautiful in every season in a different way, its a pleasure for garden lovers. Nice to do in combination with the Montclair Museum of Art, which is close by, and a stop at nearby cafes and restaurants for coffee or lunch.

I visited prior to an outdoor movie hosted by the montclair film festival and then enjoyed the film. It's a beautiful spot, lovely grounds, and great space for a picnic. A hidden gem in montclair!

Love this place. It's an oasis of beauty, The gardens are gorgeous and are used for educational programs throughout the year. I take my grandchildren here to learn about bees and butterflies. I attend a mediation class which is a special treat for me.

Montclair is blessed to have such a treasure of Irises. One never tires of the colors and beauty in the gardens.

This horticultural treasure in Montclair is open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk. Admission is free. The beauty and serenity it affords is priceless. The gardens are situated around major structures. The 140 year old Italianate Van Vleck house which was originally owned by three generations of Van Vleck's before the Montclair Foundation assumed control of the 5.8 acre property in 1993. The Carriage House has interpretive and educational programs for both adults, children and families.. Their website contains all the information needed for these available programs. The property is divided by the formal azalea walk which display unique rhododendrons and azalea which the Van Vleck's developed through hybridization. A perennial, woodland, rock, butterfly, water and mother's garden are other featured gardens. There are many placques to read for information about the estate and plants. There is ample parking and the Montclair museum and Kip's castle are less than a mile away.

The Van Vleck gardens in Montclair is a historic house and estate. Well maintained garden. The place is quite small. I wish I visited on a day when the house is opened.

Lovely flowers, shrubs and trees. In the springtime the huge, wisteria is an incredible sight to see. Peaceful place to wander, read a book, picnic and meditate. A place for all to enjoy.

When I visit my friend from Verona we usually like to take a walk in various parks in the area. We have been.here a few times. Always has been a good spot to take a walk.

Grounds are free to wander or sit and enjoy. Well maintained, accessible. New signage being added enhances your appreciation of the history of the mansion and grounds. Lovely in every season, but the wisteria twining around the columns of mansion in full bloom is awesome.

This is a great place to take a walk, have a picnic, take some photographs or paint. They are open dawn to dusk. There is no charge. Don't miss the Wisteria in bloom in the spring. They also have family activities, kids classes, Tai Chi and Yoga, a plant sale, concerts, etc.
