If you have girls...they may or may not like it. I have 2, and 1 liked, and the other didn't. Seems awesome for young little boys probably 7 and under. You pay the admission because of the drama and skits that happen out of nowhere. There are added things to pay for, but they cost is not excessive. Its was fun for a 1 time visit.
Fun for children, and adults, live guns and train , robbery and bank job, some museum quality exhibitions and theatrical shows. Souvenir star and store with all you need to remember !
Wild West City is a treasure that began in the 1950s and is a wonderful, traditional trip back into history Another very popular amusement destination that existed in the area, Bertrand Island Park, is long gone, but Wild West City is still going strong. I can't recommend this place highly enough for a family outing. In a time where DVDs, video games and iPads are the norm for children's entertainment, it's wonderful to be able to take the kids to a place where they can see history come alive in an authentic recreation of the wild west. The wild west shows, featuring cowboys, lawmen, and outlaws detail what life was like in the the west on a Main Street modeled after Dodge City, Kansas. In addition, adults and children can ride a frontier train that gets held up by outlaws and ride a stagecoach through town.Prices at Wild West City are very reasonable, and it's possible to bring your own lunch and enjoy the wonderful shaded picnic area.I have been going here since I was in elementary school and enjoy every trip there. I'll be back this summer. Long live Wild West City!
When a concept works, just stick with it. I remember going to places like this when I was a kid in the 70s and I even think I still have my deputy badge somewhere. We surprised my 7 Yr old son with a stop here, and from the moment he was greeted by the sheriff at the entrance, he was hooked! He learned how to crack a whip, rode the stagecoach during the big robbery, joined the posse in the shoot out with the bandits, transported the bad guy to jail on the train, and rode every 25 cent mechanical horse ride. Great, friendly, staff, stayed in character and also sensitive to the kids reactions. We need more attractions like this true survivor. We loved every minute if it!
I took my Grand two Grand children and one of their friends ages 11 and 12.on Columbus Day.It is certainly as if the city was left there just as it was many years ago. My. Grandson whined on the way that it was going to be boring and nothing to do, all night long when we returned home he thank me several times for taking him, It was very educational while all the time fun. They got to participate and get the feel of life during the days of the wild west. There was a lot of thing such as the telegraph office and method that was very amusing to them. They couldn't believe hair cuts were once five cents. nearly everything other than the Stage coach and train was original They do have an arcade and mini golf but very old versions .You can sit for several hours and watch the re-enactments or browse the various buildings such as Dr. Holidays office ,the Golden Nugget Saloon,Town Hall and others Younger children seemed to enjoy the place but I feel children 8 and over would really get a history lesson to remember. The employees were all very friendly and ready to answer questions. A picnic area so that eliminates one expense.
very nice friendly I loved they have several shows and take the acting seriously it looked real to me . easy to find and the horse ride was fun
The price could be better at $16/ person. It was additional $3 per activity (pony ride, coach ride, mini golf, train). A better value would be to include it all in the $16 admission price. We spent 5 hours there and that was plenty of time to do everything. It is not a huge place. Very unique concept - no big rides or crazy theme park. My daughter enjoyed the quarter rides, train ride and (very small) zoo.
If you like cowboys, horses, old time buildings go here. It is a full day. Love the picnic area you can leave your stuff there all day. The shows are amazing, loved being held up by the bandits. The kids loved being able to do what they wanted. The place is small and open enough so you can let the children go out on their own and you can still keep a eye on them. Get day for all here.
A bit of fun, enjoyed live music while having a bite to eat. Very good if you have young children,,,
My children are 4 & 5, it was perfect. Print the coupons for BOGO, that is worth it. Not sure if I would have paid full price for 4 to go. The shows they put on were good. An extra $3.50 pp for the train, stage coach & pony rides were a bit much (An extra $42 for our family of 4 to do all extras). And the $10 picture from a polaroid was a bit much, especially when the picture doesn't come attached to the fame, You have to cut it & tape it yourself. I would say 3 hours tops is all is takes. Didn't buy any food or drink, souvenir's were typical & over priced.
Ok, call us spoiled or something but this attraction was NOT worth the $60.00 entry fee for a family of 4. WE walked the "town" in less than 2 hours, looking at all the displays. I understand there are shows and the actors have to be paid, but by the time its said and done, it costs well over $100..Stage coach rides 3.50 each, ...Toy gun in the General store 30.00..... The ice cream store does not have dipped ice-cream, the general store is lacking...the boot store has 10 pair of boots to choose from starting at 149.99...Suggestions....Make the post office into a shop to purchase cards/post cards and local western art...Stamps to mail???....Have a real boot shop with reasonably prices boots and moccasins...I was all ready to get mine..Especially with the State Fair in town.Sell ice-cream, put penny candy in the general store and spruce it up, candles and good smelling stuff. ...Sell gem bags for the mining....I saw a lot of campers...maybe this is cool for kids but not for Western buffs.......
I was there 30 years ago with my 2 sons and husband and they enjoyed it then. It has not changed. My husband and I took my grandson who is 10 years old. He loved it so much he did not want to leave. We brought our own lunch and ate at the picnic tables. We enjoyed the day with our grandson.. If you can go during the week do so. The children can participate more because it is not crowded.
Place was like the old froniter town in up state. Kids enjoyed all the shows, food was a little pricey. I say raise the price getting in couple of bucks and make the rides include., not 3.50 a ride. In all I would go back
The Old West comes alive here and gives an historical perspective of life in the late 1800s. You talk with employees dressed in period attire and see cowboys on horseback running through the dirt street just like they did years ago when pioneers trekked West to explore. There is activity throughout the day and if going for a ride on the stage at a certain time, you could become part of the day's events when mounted hoseback riders hold up the stage! You can pan for gold, talk to a mountain man, and watch gunfights in the street. There are additional activities on special event days like a cowboy demonstrating a bullwhip and trick shooting. Overheard kids asking parents if they could come again the next day!
We recently took our soon to be 3 year old and soon to be six year old for a day trip here. I have to admit I wasn't sure what we were going to see, but it was really fun. I will admit that it was a bit over the top for our little guy, but his big brother loved every minute of it. From the shootouts in the street to the train robbery. The pony ride and the train ride were slow paced and perfect for the little ones. We wanted to do the stage coach ride, but ran out of time at the end. I recommend doing that first when you arrive. Petting zoo was fun as well as panning for gold. MIniature golf looked cute, but we didn't give that a try. Best of all, though, were the shows in the street and the downtown area. Walking through the shops and historic set up made you really feel like a part of the old west. The characters and shows were really fun - the horseback riding and cap guns were reminiscent of westerns out of the 1950's. I will admit that in today's time, it seems like this place is not the most politically correct, but if you can shut that off for a day, it is well worth it. My kids had a ball and the souvenirs were very reasonably priced. We will most likely visit again!
