Yes we have been there several times. This time we sat high, high in the back. The sound was fine. It is a beautiful theater and it is well manage and maintained. The seats are better that most of NYC. Parking can be problematic. I looked, and the men's room is clean. There is a bar with snacks and such. There is also a small shop with the doodad that you can bring home. The staff are friendly and informative. We go for the particular performance. Knowing that, we are always glad to attend. Trip Tip: Make sure that cell phone / smart phone is OFF.
Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes for New Years! Good show, but the opening act - Vance Gilbert - was weak. He has a great voice and plays guitar well, but the songs he played were terrible. Southside played a great 2-hour show, but his crappy sound system drowned the voices out. This is a very nice venue, nicely restored to its former beauty, but the seats are old and very small both across and front-to-back, so it was a painful experience for a big guy like me. Exercise caution when purchasing seats if you are challenged in this way! Good acts on the horizon, keep a lookout for your favorite.
Twice in the past two weeks we have seen great musical performances here. The theater is beautiful with comfortable seats and great acoustics, and the staff is always friendly. Two weeks ago we saw the Fab Faux, a Beatles tribute band, recreate the iconic "White Album". On 12/6 we saw the Irish Tenors in concert as they performed their beloved Irish classics a a set of wonderful Christmas music. We enjoyed both visits and look forward to returning.
This was our 2nd time at the theatre and seats and staff were very accommodating. Parking can be tough around the theatre but very good place to see top name acts. Celtic Women and Dancing with the Pros were a few of my favorites.
You want Broadway musicals? You want classical music? You want ballet? You want rock and roll? You want stand-up comedy? Look no further. The State Theater in New Brunswick has got it all!And it's a great venue (see photos). Big, wide and deep stage that looks great. A first-rate sound system and, oh yes, comfortable seats. I like all kinds of entertainment. So, just this season we took our granddaughter to see Beauty and the Beast, recently heard the magnificent Moscow Symphony, going to rock it old school with the Temptations and the 4 Tops next month and later in the season we will see the Don Quixote ballet. As I said "eclectic."
Just attended a Primus concert this past weekend with my husband and had a great time! We purchased tickets at the front of the upper level and view was great (have not sat in lower level, so cannot comment on that). Sound was great in the theater, and I loved the atmosphere- feels like a theater should, with crystal chandelier and all. Seats were not the most comfortable, far too little leg room as is the case with many places I have been (I am almost 6' tall), but no worse than the norm. Parking was easily within walking distance and was quite inexpensive. The only complaint about the show were the inconsiderate people who came in late and took far too long to get in their seats. Would I attend another show here? Absolutely.
Just saw Illusionists. Show just a great as Vegas. Seats have good view even from the back. Sound system very good. Seats have good leg room. Prices very reasonable. Amazing they have shows planned for 6 months out and shows almost every night of the week.If you get there early you can buy for $9 prepaid parking. This avoids long lines to pay for parking at the public garage around the corner when the show is over.Very convenient for many restaurant choices within walking distance
We usually go to the state several times a year. There seems to be shows for everyone. Never disappointed. it's a small theater, so it seems all Seats are good. There is plenty of parking close to the theater. Plenty of restaurants in the area.
I have gone here for years to see many shows. Since parking is not always easy, they make it easy by providing valet parking. I've seen the Fab Faux, 1964 the Tribute and many other shows here. Great place. Love the seating. Plenty of room in the main aisle to dance to your favorite bands playing!!!
I travel 1.5 hours to go to this Theater. It is BEAUTIFULLY restored. They have the most interesting and well known performers. KUDOS
Took in the Glen Burtnik & Friends Beatles Bash 8 on Sept 13.Was pleasantly surprised by the perfornance; exceeded my expectations. Very nice building. Seats too narrow though; a common problem with order theaters. Staff at the ticket window were very helpful.
I've wanted to see Terry Fator ever since he won America's Got Talent. Not disappointed at all. Show was fantastic! Theater is a wonderful medium sized venue right in the heart of downtown New Brunswick. Really not a bad seat in the house. Plenty of ushers available to take you right to your seat. Parking is plentiful, within a comfortable walking distance. There is a slight incline to the theater from some decks. Parking was free!. The State Theater has a huge selection of shows. Check them out online. I wouldn't hesitate to go to any show. Plenty of restaurant choices within a block or two of the theater.
beautiful place and great acoustics-no bad seats. Like that you could take a drink to your seat. Helpful ushers
Right in downtown New Brunswick! Local theatre with great shows. We have seen a lot of shows here at the State and fully enjoyed every one. There is nothing like dinner and a show on a beautiful evening - only 15 minutes from home . They have something for everyone.
Rock, musicals, show tunes, country, ballet, symphony, comedy, kids shows, modern dance, HD movies. It's all there, right in your back yard in New Brunswick NJ. Cheap parking and great restaurants to boot. It's live theater without the hassell of a NYC trip and cost.We go > 10 times per year.
