Our group of 5 couples took a limo to the starting point of the Two Bridges Trolley Wine Tour near Swedesboro in South Jersey, so we didn’t need to worry about too much tasting! The first of four stops was Auburn Road Vineyard and Winery. This was a beautiful place and ended up being the favorite of all in our group. The owner was there to explain the wines that we were about to taste and was very knowledgeable. On Friday nights, the have a chef come in and they do a dinner and wine pairing – which we all plan to come back for. Auburn Road and the other wineries have special events all year long. The owner told us that Auburn Road is all lit up around the Christmas holidays and so we also plan to go back then. After the first stop, you board a trolley with about a dozen others doing the tour and it is off to the next winery. There are two tours, A or B – We did the B tour – I believe the A tour is on the Pennsylvania side of the two bridges. The second winery, Wagonhouse, had an outside set up for the tour and the owner was not serving so the folks that were did not have extensive knowledge of the 18 wines that were available for tasting. There was a singer/guitar player there as well. Inside the winery had a great gift shop, restaurant and tasting area as well and was also a very nice atmosphere. In between the 2nd and 3rd winery stops was a lunch stop at Blue Plate in Mullica Hil NJ. The food being served to the non wine tour customers look very good. However, in order to move the tour along, they set up a buffet for the wine tour of sandwiches, wraps, pasta and salad. The flies landing on the food was a real turn off and I could not eat the food there. Had it not been for this, I would have given the tour five stars. Next was off to Cedarville winery where the owner greeted us and was there to talk about the vineyard and wines. A smaller place but they had some good wine to taste, and interesting items in the gift shop. The final stop was Bellview Winery at Maugeri's Farm Market. This was again an outside wine tasting location where you can purchase cheese, watermelon, and other items to have with your wine tasting. We also tasted and purchased orange watermelon and yellow watermelon at the farm and there were many other farm made products as well as fruit and vegetables for purchase from the farm. Back on the trolley to end the tour where we started, at Auburn Road Winery. Our group had a lot of fun and we purchased a couple bottles of wine at each location. The tour is recommended but hopefully they figure something else out for lunch.
