An excellent variety of wines and a tasting room. Most of my visiting relatives like the change of pace off shore.
We visited the Tomasello Winery tasting room located in the Wemrock Farm Market in Freehold recently. We had reservation but they had put it down in their schedule for the following Saturday. So it was a little too crowded, and too hot in the tasting room. We had paid for this, otherwise I wouldn't complain. The employees tried hard and were very pleasant but there were too many people to wait on and discuss wine with. The wine was very good.
I have visited both tasting rooms at Smithville on numerous occasions. They always have a large number of their wines available for tasting. Hard to figure the previous review about staff talking to each other. I have never encountered more than one employee working at any given time. Probably talking to customers. The unlimited complimentary tastings have ended. You get to taste one or two wines and then can buy a more complete tasting. Sign of the times/economy, I guess. Still can't figure out why they have two separate tasting rooms at the same location. Could use one in Bergen County. Tasting room in Lambertville is also nice. Best way to taste NJ wines is at the big summer wine festivals.
Cranberry Berry wine was very good made from Local Berries very good ...Liquor store 's a little less cost ......................if you can find it ....................
Tomasello has 2 tasting rooms - one on each side of the "bridge" that goes across the lake. The people who staff the tasting rooms are all very pleasant. There are wine-related gifts you can buy, as well as the wine. There are gourmet chocolates and candies at the Tomasello by the carousel. All of their wines are available for tasting - and there is an extensive number of wines - arranged from dry to sweet, red to white, and varietals such as cranberry, blueberry, raspberry, etc. For $5 you get a glass and can taste a generous amount of 5 different wines, or have a full glass of one. During the fall and holiday season, the mulled spice wine is served warm, and the taste and aroma is unbeatable on a chilly day!
Very personable merchant in the one-of-two shops. Some reasonably priced items related to wines as well as wines. We had one complimentary taste. You can also buy an actual tasting of a few wines and get a souvenier glass.
It always bothers me when the staff is so engrossed in their own conversation that they cannot even take a minute to say hello and welcome. We have had Tomasello wines before and were going to buy several to take home however when we walked around the shop for about 4 minutes and couldn't get the staff to stop gossiping about their friend long enough to acknowledge they had customers we decided that we would buy from a different winery. We stopped at these shops before and had the same experience so since there are so many wineries full of friendly knowledgeable people we decided that we will spend our money in a wine tasting room that appreciates wine and appreciates its customers.
If you're new with wines the salesperson will give you useful informations about the wine of your choice. You can even have a chance to taste some of them before you make your purchase.
this was just a fun visit....why should anyone be looking for vintage expensive wines here? the tastings were adequate...and as a European, I actually bought one bottle! Staff were pleasant and helpful, and there was no attempt to make visitors feel compelled to buy.
New Jersey wine makers still have a long way to go and this place is certainly not the worst of the lot, but bottom line, the wine just isn't acceptable, but the gifts and wine accessories that they sell here are wonderful!
My boyfriend and I had never been to Smithville but on vacation this past week, we had an overcast day and decided to go to Smithville and check it out. We love wines and wineries so when we saw that there was a wine tasting place, we headed right for it. The price for the tasting-$5 for 5 tastings and you keep the glass-and you keep the glass was great. My boyfriend likes red wines and I like sweet, so between the two of us, we wound up buying a case. He loved the $48 cabernet, and the $16.95 chambourcin. I like the raspberry moscato and the almond one (don't remember the name)(both in the neighborhood of $12-$16). Once you start to drink wine from wineries, you will never go back to the liquor store. I was happy to see that they also have an "outlet" in Lambertville, NJ, as my boyfriend and I go to New Hope, PA. (right across the bridge). You will definitely enjoy this visit.
We were able to taste 5 wines and took home the wine glass for $5. Bought a bottle each and they were worth the price--more than we usually spend.
This winery tasting room was great. For just $5 we got 5 wine samples as well as a nice wine glass. Ended up purchasing several bottles including a couple we probably would not have chosen if we had not been able to try them first. We love the Cape May Red. If we cannot find it at home, we will definitely order from the winery.
My boyfriend and I did the Groupon deal for the Winery in Hammonton and really enjoyed the event. Tables were set up with the tastings in the winery's event room and the co-owner was an amazing MC. He really knows and cares about the wines. The tasting was excellent, 1 white wine, a few reds, a fruit wine, and a port as well as a reserve wine. It was an excellent experience and the wines were paired with cheese from a local market as well as desserts. We have been to many NJ wineries and were very impressed by the wines and the presentation. The deal also included tasting glasses--which can be used for free tastings anytime at any of the winery locations as well as a membership to the winery's club and a voucher that ended up allowing us a free bottle of wine. At the end of the tasting/cheese and dessert pairing the winery had available all of their wines for sampling which were served by employees in tuxedo. It was a very classy and elegant affair. We stopped in the shop on the way out to pick up a bottle and they were having an event for the Valentine's weekend wine trail including an awesome chocolate fondue fountain with sweet goodies. It was an excellent time--GO DO THE TASTING WITH CHEESE PAIRING! It was phenomenal!
Dropped by for a tasting at the Hammonton location. What a pleasant surprise. I was expecting overly sweet wine and was delighted to taste many dry wines both in white and red. They have a blueberry sparkling wine that is far superior to Renault. They were having a wine and chocolate event and had a delicious chocolate fountain with donut holes. Yum. Totally worth the visit to try their wines.
