As many here state and live nearby as myself I must agree with them! The new causeway took several years to build but will last a long time to help usher in the beach, boat and fun seekers!
It is a beautiful body of water which lends itself to the usual pleasurable activities like boating, sailing and fishing. Somers Point Harbor Cova Marina is a good starting point for a lot of those activities. There are many nice restaurants in town and places to walk like Kennedy Park. Do not miss the new causeway. The bay is also very photogenic with lots of photo opportunities.
The new causeway is THE new attraction in the area. A full pedestrian walkway allows you to take in the view from the Atlantic ocean inlet on up into the river. 2.5 miles each way or park in the middle and go as far as you want. Fresh air and exercise with a view!!
Most of our summers are spent on the Great Egg Harbor Bay: we fish, crab, clam, water ski, and relax. The water is clean and the only heavy boat traffic is on the weekends. The local college builds and places osprey platforms throughout the meadows, so there are many opportunities to view them and other shore birds. In the early mornings one can kayak when there aren't many boat wakes. A few of the restaurants offer free docking--don't pull into another boater's slip! Visitors should be mindful of the No Wake zones and adhere to boating and fishing rules and regulations!
GREAT Golf, food, personnel, clean and just a great place! go there to see some of the Flyer's greats and have fun
This is probably the Premier location in Atlantic County for boatin, fishing, cruising and having a blast. Novices should stick to channels that are marked and pay attention to your depth finder. Several nice restaurants and bars offer free dockage to patrons.
Have fished, crabbed, clammed and swam in this body of water since I was a kid the new bridge across is state of the art but the body of water in crosses is a great destination.
Great Egg Bay borders Margate, Longport Ocean City Somers Point Egg Harbor TOWNSHIP AND Upper township in Southern NJ. If you want Southern Hospitality in a Yankee state y'all should try a weekend of boating between some of these fine establishments; Lambertis in Margate Baia, Philip Chin, Clancy' Crabby Jacks And more in Somers Point, plus Tuckahoe Inn in Upper Twp. Go further up the river to Mays Landing for fine dining by Water at Inn of Sugar Hill
I am out on this bay 12 months a year. It is beautiful! Clamming, crabbing, fishing, sailing and just cruising. A great place with a boat.
i love to take out the boat with my guy and cruise the bay, great way to unwind. there is a nice boatramp there, reasonably priced too.then after your ride you can dock at the tuckahoe inn and have anice lunch or a nice beverage.
We love this area for boating, it is a wonderful place to sail, there are several restaurants within easy reach by water. At night the view of Atlantic and Ocean Cities is beautiful from the bay. It's also a great place to watch the fireworks on Fourth of July if you have a boat or a friend who has one, watching from the water is lovely and you don't have to worry about crowds and traffic! It's convenient to the river as well as the Atlantic. The only con is during high-season, it can get dangerously busy with speeding boats coming in from the ocean and going out. Mainly tourists who don't know or respect the rules.
Nice park and boat launch just up the road. Great sightseeing on bridge to Ocean City (just 2 miles away/) Safe to walk at night.
Great Egg Harbor Bay is centrally located, providing good accessibility to Absecon Island (home of Atlantic City, etc.), Ocean City (NJ, of course) and Somers Point. Its inlet is wide, with the main channel well marked by navigational aids. Be careful to avoid the shallows and waves there. Plenty of nearby channels, and of course the ocean and artificial reefs, for fishing buffs. Several places offer gas. Some restaurants have pull up docks for boaters. Use your depth finder to stay in deep water.
I 'FREE' park off of W. Newcastle Rd. It is just on the left before the toll booth for the Oceans Drive Bridge at the north end of the Island. Access to the beach and some great fishing in the Great Egg Harbor Inlet and miles of beach and surf, if you go to the right, awaits you. If you like taking pictures, there most always interesting water craft, water birds, gulls coming and going to and from the Harbor. Super Sunsets looking due west toward the Power Plant. It has been my favorite Saltwater 'Fishing Hole' for 15 years. I just wish they had 'porta-potties'....the wife would like it better.
Nice kids beach, fishing pier. Also check out Kennedy Park. Many bars, restaurants and takeout. N.C. style BBQ joint just out of town. Close to Ocean City and Atlantic City.
