I like the Riverwinds because each hole is different and challenging. The course is always kept in great shape. And normally you can get around it in 4 1/2 hours.
a beautifully cared for course, full of bunkers and a tough course but a great one to play...the weather was terrible and i look forward to going back to play on a nice day. the only "down" is the cost in that it is more expensive than others in the area...senior rate is 55.00..most of the courses in the area run between 30 and 40...
Fairways were excellent, greens were good... very close to good private course conditions on the course itself. Attendants and starter Mike were very friendly and helpful. This course is a great layout, fair and challenging. Greens, fairways, traps were very good. Cart paths on some holes slow down play because you have to park well short of the hole and walk back to your cart, sometimes 60-80 yds.... there has to be an easier design that can be revamped w/o hurting the layout. It is still a great track in good condition, great views, too. Play did move well even with the issue above. Nothing fancy when you arrive and you'll need a cart, but I think this course is a must play. I have not been to the restaurant yet, but heard it is very nice.
So I'm not much of a golfer, but my husband is. He brought me here for our anniversary. The course was beautiful and extremely well kept. They are doing some renovations, but it doesn't effect play.
The guys wanted to play a quick nine as it is $20 during the week after 4 is what I was told. We played the front and it was in very good condition and plays a lot like a links course with mounds and rough making wonderful boundaries for nice fairways. The course was in good condition and the starter was extremely pleasant. From a design standpoint, I thought every hole other than number nine was fun and challenging. Nine is a dogleg right with water the boundary along the right side so it requires precision and a long second shot regardless as it plays to an elevated green. All in all, Riverwinds is nice and in good shape with nice design. Hole #5 was a beast but delight to play, a long par 4 with trouble everywhere. Both par threes are challenging. Riverwinds makes you earn that score. Enjoy Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds!
The food, service and view from the dining room were all excellent!I have been there several times, both lunch and dinner and was always satisfied.
Many times, you go to a public golf course only to play a dog track. This course is quite the opposite! It has challenging greens, something you rarely find at a public course. If you are in the Philly/SJ area, this course is worth checking out!
Great layout, but a long way from car to first tee. Greens are fast most days. Links style course and the name Riverwinds works as it's almost always windy.
Had a blast aside from the starter giving us a 20 minute lecture before we teed off. They need to fix ball marks better.
This course has a lot of potential but our round started off on a bad note. We had a 4:09 tee time and paid the $40 twilight rate. We were then told by the very surly starter that it would be at least 4:30 before we could tee off. The entire pace of play was slow and we were only able to complete 13 holes. The course is right along the Delaware river and has several nice views of the Philadelphia skyline. The course itself could use a little more upkeep. Every green had ball marks that apparently neither the golfers or groundskeepers chose not to repair.A lower price and better control of the pace of play would bring me back. I had the impression that all the course was worried about was the money. The put as many people out on the course as they could and seemed to care less about the slow play.I would not worry about returning.
Played a Saturday round here for first time at course. Great course design and late round scenery. Course is in decent shape. Main issue is obvious lack of diligence by golfers in filling in divots and fixing ball marks - what else is new?? $79 for a Saturday morning round here seems a bit much. Should be about $60. Pro shop nothing special, but personnel were nice and accommodating. If you live more than 45 minutes from here, don't bother making the trip.
This could be one of the premier courses in the South Jersey area with some creative tweeking. It has a fabulous location along the Delaware River and views of the city(Philadelphia). The ride from the clubhouse to the starter is ridiculous, the longest trip of any course I've played. Hopefully they will build something closer to the first tee and maybe a sandwich hut at the turn. The course itself is challenging with a good mix of water hazzards and sand traps. There is a good chance that you will use most of your clubs for 18 holes. Course has gotten much better since Jaworski's mgt team is supervising.
River Winds conditioning is improving since Ron Jaworski took it over but the customer service will lose it customers. Previously, the course had fallen into disrepair due to a lack of conditioning. The fairways and greens are much improved while the traps still need work with shots often being played from hardpan or mud. River Winds has no clubhouse and the pro shop is in the indoor tennis center a 1/4 mile away from the course. The carts are old, slow, dirty and need to be replaced. The staff at the bag drop also lacks proper training. The fellow that greeted us walked past my wife without taking her bag and pointed her to the line of old worn out carts. The bag drop and loading area is the first impression golfers get of a course. In this case the impression was bad. We'll consider playing River Winds again after Jaworski has time to get the staff and equipment in order. Until then, we'll spend our dollars elsewhere.
