Terrific views over Manhatten, Ellis Island and, of course, Liberty Island. Easy access, free parking and not another soul in sight.....although it was probably the coldest day ever known to man ........
There is no better park than Liberty State Park. It is such a easy relaxing place to be. You can walk, bike ride, dine, cookout, or just lay on the grass and watch the scenic view. You have the Liberty Science Center and can take a boat ride around Manhattan. I personally walk three times a week in the park. Its a great place to exercised as well. Once a year my and I family participate in the MS walk.
A vast open park with a long Boardwalk for biking jogging or just strolling. Lower Manhattan views and the back side of Lady Liberty follow you. Walk or bike past the " secret " bridge that goes to Elis Island. plenty of picnic areas with BBQ pits if that is your thing. Great place to fly a drone. Also within the park is the Liberty Scince center. Ferries depart fort the Statue of Liberty near the Cool abandoned main Train Station. Oh and let's not forget the secret path to the bird watching hut Aka "Lovers path" and if one thing, there is also Liberty House for wedding receptions with awesome views of Manhattan and the Paulus Hook Marina. No wonder they want to convert this into aresidential development area
I'll divide this into two parts. Part One. Runner.I live two miles down the street from here, so I can be a bit biased as to it's location, however there is no place out of all the places I've lived that is better for a run. (Los Angeles/Chicago) Along the way you see the same friendly people out for their walks, and you see the same people doing their pull-ups and such. Everyone says Hi or waves as they sprint past. People train on bikes and walk their dogs. To run along the bricks and see the sun come up over Lady Liberty is just breathtaking. There are people out there fishing and by and large, it's very peaceful and a nice 8 mile loop from my house. For people. This is the greatest thing about where I live. There is a giant area of kids to play as well as clean bathrooms and drinking fountains and such. There are nature trails and tons of room to run, fly and kite play football (fish I guess, I see people do it). I've come here for the 4th of July and had a great time watching the fireworks and eating food from the vendors. The park is huge so you can sort life out if you needed. The park is safe and has area's for barbecues. Tons of parking and most of it is free. Around 90% just don't go the ferry and your fine. It's connected to the best views of Manhattan. Only complaint, the statue for why it's called Liberty State Park (not for the statue but for the liberation of Jews) the statue's hands are too big. That's it. Outside of that, it's my favorite place to be.
I live in Jersey City and have visited Liberty State Pk for the past 15 years at least once a week. There are great walking paths along the Hudson River with the greatest views of lower Manhattan, Liberty and Ellis Islands. Start at either end of the park and walk to the opposite end which is 1.5 miles each way or walk along the waterfront and take the nature trails along the west end of the park. You can extend your walk along the boat docks and inlet where Liberty National Golf Course overlooks the river. Take the path to its end for another mile. On the west end visit the historic train terminal where you can pick up ferries to Liberty Island. There are great lawns to rest and barbecue, a large children's playground, a 911 memorial directed across the river where the towers once stood. I have been to many state and national parks all over the USA and this will always be one of my favorites. You can stay in one of the many waterfront hotels in Jersey City drive to the park, take the 8 minute PATH train to NYC and enjoy the day.
This is a gorgeous park with magnificent views of New York City and the New York Harbor. It is a great place to walk, run or bike and if you bring a bike the best way to get there is by Ferry which you can catch at the World Financial Center and it will take you right to the Park ( It is the Liberty Landing Ferry). There is also an awesome playground and picnic areas. There are two restaurants in the park. That are very good and very high end. In season you need reservations.
PEACEFUL, NICE , SAFE, JOY YOU CAN SEE ALL OF NEW YORK CITY AND THE STATUE OF LIBERTY. TAKE THE FERRY TO ELLIS ISLAND OR JUST SIT AND MEDITATE Peaceful, nice, safe, joy, you can see all New York City up skyline, and Statue of Liberty. Can take the Ferry to Ellis Island in 10 mis. The statue of liberty was very nice for the kids to see it up close.
We go to this park almost every weekend in summer, so kids can play, we can do bbq, take a walk near the river, kids do biking, awesome family place
This park is constantly under attack by commercial interests because they refuse to accept that ordinary people have a right to something great (even spectacular). So they are always snipping away at its free and open situation. where there was a public picnic area there are now expensive restaurants that few loacl residents can afford. Where there was a sunlit plaza with a tile surface surrounded by comfortable seating and spectacular views that's where seniors (but open to anyone) would spend a Sunday afternoon listening to great music while dancing - but now there is that pile of dirt called "Empty Sky Memorial.
This park is awesome to walk around, go for a run. There are many Hudson county races that are done in this part. There is a beautiful boardwalk and a memory wall for 9/11.There are a lot of play areas for children. There is a boat marina and a few restaurants. You can get the ferry into lower Manhattan. It is very close to Liberty Science Center.A good trip to make not only for the visit to the Statue of Liberty ( which belongs to NJ by the way :) Enjoy!
The statue of liberty was very nice for the kids to see it up close. It was a cold day and wind blowing but it was nice to see history up close.
A great tribute & view to the Statue of Liberty, & a good view, (even if you do only see her rear end!)
We live in Jersey City and so LSP is a local park we frequent, but the specialness never ceases to amaze me. Great views, wide open space, jungle gym, jogging path, even an old locomotive for fans of "Thomas and Friends".The views are unparalleled; you can see Statute of Liberty, lower Manhattan up through midtown, and south towards Brooklyn and Staten Island. The park itself is huge, so great for joggers (there's a clean, wide jogging path that makes a great loop thru the park). The jungle gym sits in the middle of the park, surrounded by acres of green grass that are perfect for flying kites (one of few areas where kite flying is so easy and carefree and FUN!). Picnic tables and barbecue grills also surround the jungle gym area so it's a perfect spot to hunker down in nice weather with a large group. In the northern corner of the park (near Jersey City's Paulus Hook / across from lower Manhattan) is the boat to Statute of Liberty, but there's also an old train there that you can look at, sort of poke around. Last time I was there (this past spring), we could climb up on the platform and look inside the train. It's a real treat for kids who enjoy trains or adults who would enjoy the history of the old railways from when LSP was a railway station.Overall, a great park to stop by if you're passing through, to go for a few hours with the kids, or to spend the entire day. There is food - usually a hot dog truck. You can also bring your own, it's perfect or a picnic.
.This place is boring, boring, boring on bicycle.Overall, it is a decent place to view Manhattan skyline
