..I've been trying to teach my grandsons to appreciate the History of this infamous site and past skirmishes and lost of Mariner life. For now all they like doing is taking 62 yr young Grandma up to the tippy top of 'Ol'Barney'!!! :) As of late we've been there the past 2 years... we've been blessed to go there in November and December.... and... has always been a real nice breeze..(if you know what I mean)

We stopped by during a pause between rain storms on an otherwise stormy January day. We were glad we did! We were happy to find the park open, including the bathrooms, paths, and lighthouse. The walk to the lighthouse from the parking lot is easy and full of interesting and informative signs. We didn't climb up into the lighthouse itself but did walk all the way out and back along the concrete path on top of the jetty. We did get caught in the beginning of the next line of rain clouds but it didn't take long to get back to the car.

If you are on LBI and catch a cloudy day, or just have had enough of the sun, you must go to see "Old Barney," LBI's lighthouse! It has been restored to its former glory and is a sight to see!! Be prepared to climb lots of stairs to the top. If u are claustrophobic, u may want to sit this one out as the staircase is narrow and of course winding!! But the view from the top is simply, "breath taking!" Just beautiful!!! For those who prefer to wait outside, there is walkway over the seawall where you can stroll and kill some time, while your friends and family climb to the top. A favorite of mine!

It's nice to be able to see the island from the top of this lighthouse, but there are a lot of steps. I have been up there twice and I don't think I need to do that again. What is most interesting is the story of how the shore of the island keeps changing, how the house that used to be next to the lighthouse eventually got washed away, and how the state continues to struggle to keep the ocean from eating away the foundation of the lighthouse. If you are interested in the history, it is definitely worth visiting the interpretive center next to the lighthouse.

Went on a miserable cold rainy windy day and was too chicken to go out on the ledge, as the wind was whistling so bad. Nevertheless, the climb was fun and quick, and the views are fair to good even out of the windows from inside the light house.Note: not for those afraid of heights, out of shape, or even claustrophobic. But there are plenty of landings that you can step out on (still inside the light house), take breaks at, and catch your breath. Closes at 3:30 this time of year -- on weekends anyway.

Hello Gregory Grookett here to review the Barnegat Lighthouse in New Jersey. The lighthouse is a great attraction that you can climb if you can make it. They have lots of steps and it is very tiresome if your not in shape. Been going here since I was a young child and can't do it like I use to. Lol. But once you reach the top the sites are breath taking and you can see for miles. The park around the lighthouse is also very nice and also there is a jetty nearby also where you can do some fishing. Close by there are a restaurant and general store that sells tackle and knick knacks and souvenirs. You can also picnic or also close by rent a boat to go into the bay either fishing or crabbing. A great day trip for the family and entrance into the lighthouse is fairly priced. Gregory Grookett highly recommends this place you will really enjoy it and learn a little history of the area.

This is a beautiful lighthouse. Lots of steps to climb, but well worth it when you get to the top. The view from above is amazing! You can see most of the island, and the bay and ocean lies spectacularly below you.One of the most breathtaking spots anywhere. There is also an amazing walk you can take on the lighthouse grounds out to the ocean. This is my favorite lighthouse on my favorite island!

The Barnegat Lighthouse, pier and rocks are an enjoyable way to spend the day on LBI. We have been visiting the Lighthouse for more than 15 years now. It recently was repainted. You can walk up to the top of the lighthouse, for a charge - I believe it is $3 p/person now, and see the beautiful area. Otherwise the area is free. There is also a concrete pier that follows the waterway and then rocks at the end. You are not supposed to go on the rocks but many people do and it is a very enjoyable way to pass the time. If you have small children you must be careful on the concrete pier as the barrier is minimal. There are also some places to shop and eat right outside of the park.

Went in the off season. Great place to sit, view the ocean and inlet. Love the nature walk. The park and lighthouse were free. The view today was fantastic and the temp was ideal. Had a picnic lunch.

We went off season, so no traffic. We just explored Long Beach Island and this is a Gem. Great if you like to fish off piers!!!

Located at the nothern end of LBI, the Barnegat lighthouse is really worth a visit. The state park is free, with plenty of parking. There is a visitor center with exibits. We climbed the lighthouse for free and were glad we did because it offers great views of LBI and the ocean. All the way up, you can read about the history of the lighthouse, which also makes you feel better about having to stop to catch your breath. The northern part of LBI is our favorite spot for the beaches and the Barnegat light always adds a fun stop on our journey.

Beautiful view from the top of the lighthouse, and interesting bits of history posted after every 25-30 steps.
