quite and peaceful place, great scenery, and it takes your mind off the busy life we all seem to lead today.
The boys loved the lake area. It was an afternoon very well spent. They exhausted themselves while I read a book - it doesn't get much better than that.
really nice lake type beach - very safe and clean for young kids - full shower/restroom area - easy parking - great setting
My husband and I went biking here last weekend. It was a beautiful day and a bit of a drive but we hadn't been here before and wanted to try it. Many of the hiking trails were marked for biking as well so we randomly picked one. Parts of it were really fun but other parts you just had to walk your bike...way too narrow, way too many tree roots, way too close to the edge of a cliff, LOL. My husband is a more advanced mountain biker and he would not suggest the trail we were on. However, had we just walked it would have been more enjoyable. Maybe some sort of explanation of the trail at the trailhead (like difficulty level), or maybe a map of the park in general in the parking areas. We went to several and there was no map of anything. Very odd for a park. The scenery made up for it though, very beautiful.
Have used the boat ramp to launch and ride on the reservoir. Limit is 9.9 hpr so going is slow. I hear the fishing is good. Can see the bottom from the shallow waters. Nearby is Spruce Run which is shallower lake. Different fish and boating experience. In the winter when the lakes freeze, these have been ice boats. That is something to see.
Round Valley is a man-made reservoir that is large and deep in fact; the valley that created the reservoir flooded an old New Jersey town when constructed. Scuba divers report roads, homes barns and other remnants of the old town that once lived dives. Boats with less than 10HP are welcome. There is a boat ramp and other amenities. Beautiful and well worth enjoying any time of year. It is a gem when it is not packed with visitors on summer weekends who come by the carload, in caravans a times, to get away and enjoy the value of the state park as access is free.
Quiet with clear water, this state park makes you feel that you are miles away from civilization. Food and supplies are only a few miles away. Great place for a day trip, fishing, hiking, walking or just taking in the peace and quiet.
This park is well known for drownings because the reservoir is so deep. The spot is very beautiful and has hiking trails, boating and 2 boat ramps, swimming area and lots of shoreline for fishing. There is some camping that you have to boat to or hike in to. The water is crystal clear. My dog loves to go swimming there. We go kayaking there often. You can get a summer pass or pay a daily fee during the summer season. It is worth it. During the summer, the swimming and barbecuing area gets crowded and sometimes full so come early or come during the week better yet.
I've never been there during the summer months. We prefer the quiet off season where this area provides a scenic walk along the water for us and our dogs. We occasionally bump into other dog walkers doing the same. If the water isnt too cold we let the dogs play in the water.
the water is perhaps the cleanest in the state !!!we've been to several and round valley is superior !!!
The fishing was during fall turnover which when played right can yield some of the best fishing of the year.
Round Valley is a great place to hike or boat. If you are into birding and an 18 mile hike it is a great place to watch the eagles nest. Camping is also available.
This is a great place to hike. The trails are good some along the water. There have been bear sightings so be careful!
Great views are to be had from here if you happen to be cycling in the area. I ride my road bike up here and it is not a bad climb and it is really pretty to look out over the reservoir.
Spent the day at the beach with my daughter. Reservoir is well protected by lifeguards at the swimming areas. they go on duty at 10 a.m. Bath house was clean. Stopped at the snack stand for an ice cream but brought our own picnic lunch. Covered picnic tables right next to the sand. Weekends get really crowded and admission closes early but we went on a Tuesday and practically had to beach to ourselves for several hours. Great day for $5.
