The staff of Saco Valley Canoe are good people to work with. They will help you and answer all your questions. Both of the drivers to and from the river liked doing their job which started and finished our trip on a great note. The float trip was a great trip with good water levels and great weather. Make sure you bring your sun screen and some thing to drink. Parties start on the sandbars Friday so if you are looking for less people go midweek. We went Friday this year so the first half of the trip we ran into people having a good time but not bothering us. The river is patrolled by the police so follow the rules or it could get expensive. We hope to be doing this trip again next year. Time flies so the 7 mi. trip is a nice trip
Had a great experience with Saco Valley Canoe while going down the river with my boyfriend. Opted to take one of shorter routes as we had other plans for the day. The river was an overall great experience. Warm sunshine and crystal clear water made for a great time and the swimming was delightful. The staff at SVC were perfect. They were eager to help and please and were very helpful. They talked us through the best route to take and provided easy shuttle service to and from the river. With excellent prices and great staff, I would definitely recommend to plan your trip with SVC. One note, if you are traveling with young kids make sure to specify this when making your reservation. The river can turn into a bit of a party scene as we saw, but if you let them know the staff will provide you with the best route so you and your kids have an enjoyable experience! Also, the prices are so cheap! Who doesn't love that?!
Had a great trip on the Saco Rivier! Floating down the river with friends is always a relaxing time. Saco Valley's staff was amazing. They are always friendly and waiting to help. Fun Fact: If there are water guns or noodles available, they will let you borrow them for free. Just ask! Some notes about the river: Sun Screen and Bug Spray are a must! Also, when planning your trip down the river, make sure to talk to the staff about the best trip for your friends or family. The first stretch of the river has a campground of young adults partying which is not appropriate for families, but you can launch your boats further down the river which has a better family atmosphere. We put in after the partying area and has a quiet and relaxing trip. As always the views and atmosphere on the river are amazing.
My wife and I deceided to try kayaking after many years of canoeing. The folks at Saco valley canoe fixed us up with a two person kayak and all the "fixins". They transported us to and from the river. We took a 3 hr. 7 mile trip which included our lunch picnic on a sandbar. The staff was great and even a bit of rain couldn't "dampen the day". it was great and I will do it again when we return to the White Mts.PS the price was right!!
We had a bad experience on the Saco this past weekend. We were visiting from out-of-town, and my husband booked a 2-canoe rental for our family. He told the woman taking our reservation that we were traveling with 3 children, including a 7 year old. She suggested a "calm" part of the Saco for us to travel between points 3 and 4 on their map.We had NO IDEA that the Saco is a like a huge frat party on the weekends. There were hundreds, if not over a thousand, incredibly drunk and profane young adults floating in big groups, swearing, peeing on the shore, and fighting during our 2 hour trip. It was hard to maneuver our canoes at times due to the groups of people who tied their canoes/tubes/etc. together and were floating on the river. There were lots of beer cans floating in the water and garbage in many places. This was a terrible spot for a family outing. We know now what to Google before making any more of these types of plans. I think the woman making our reservation should have told my husband that this is not a good family atmosphere on a Saturday in the summer. I noticed on another canoe company's website in this area that they state specifically not to take families out on the Saco on the summer weekends. To the company's credit - the young men who transported my family and equipment to and from the river were very friendly and helpful.
