We were staying at the 1810 house B & B in Wolfeboro, NH and asked about wine tastings. Our wonderful hosts gave us some info on the Sap House Meadery. We decided to check them out. I called ahead & asked if we could do a tastings with them since it was during the week. (they normally are open for tastings on Sat & Sun) We were so glad they said yes. (we were heading back home on the weekend) We were greeted by Matt who gave us the tastings. Matt is very informative! Very nice & down to earth. We really enjoyed learning about the Meadery, their meads & the story of their business. It is a smaller place but worth the trip. Give them a try. (we brought some meads home to enjoy)
The area that it's located in is kind of sketchy, but the owners and their mead made it worth the 40 minute drive!
Want to try something a little different? This will appeal to most wine folks. Beloved and I got word about this place at Coffin Cellars and decided to check it out. We drove around Lake "Winni" from Gilford to Center Ossipee and found their flag hanging out. Parking was on the street as there were only two spots to park in front of the store. The storeroom/tasting room is well lit and has a simple clean appealing look. Matt did our tasting and he not only knows his products, but it is obvious that he enjoys sharing his knowledge and expertise with others. These meads are not your 80's "Ren Fest" heavy sticky juices. These are lovely, light subtle meads that have been crafted with attention to the details. These young entrepreneurs; Ash and Matt use locally sourced raw wildflower honey and organically grown fruits. This is a place we will return to any time we are in the area. The hopped blueberry=awesome!
We heard about the Sap House Meadery on a local television show about 6 months ago. While in the area yesterday, we decided to check it out. Upon arrival into this very small town, you sort of stumble upon the Sap House on the corner. There is no parking specifically for the meadery, but just find a spot on the street. We walked through the front door and was greeted immediately by a very friendly gentleman who was finishing up a "tasting" with another couple. The atmosphere is so friendly. The smell of honey is oh so yummy! Our tasting was done by one of the co-owners, Ash. He explained the history of the company, how the mead is made, and any other questions we had for him. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. You feel like you have known each other for years. I could go on and on. We purchased several bottles; vanilla bean and chocolate being our favorite. Ash mixed the 2 together for us...oh, was that delicious! We cannot wait to bring friends with us on our next visit. Thank you Ash for sharing your love of mead with us. We wish the Sap House much success.
We went here as part of the 'Lakes regoin wineries' tasting weekend and it was our most delicious stop! Their 'Oaked' mead was our favorite, can't wait to share with friends and family.
The Meadery wasn't open for tastings on friday, but when I called and spoke with one of the owners, Matt, he accommodated our schedule and greeted us with a smile. We learned a lot about the history of the company, how mead is made, and most importantly we learned that we all love mead! Matt is very knowledgeable and is from Center Ossipee. There isn't much parking, I would recommend calling ahead first.
The staff and environment was wonderful. Never been to a tasting before and this was great. It was more than just a tasting. They talk about what foods are good to go with the mead. Will be back often! An amazing experience.
Just went away with 4 friends for a spa weekend. Wanted to go to a winery one of the days but none were open. We were intrigued by the the idea of a meadery and decided to give it a try. We were surprised at first by the size and location, but still interested. It is a fairly new business started by 2 young men from the area. We had the pleasure of meeting Matt, one of the owners. He answered all of our questions, we tried some very interesting wines and had a great experience. It is definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
Great find in Center Ossipee. Good mead, great owners. They make some interesting blends of honey wine and other local flavors -- such as blueberry. Interesting spot. Worth a trip.
