We have always had a great time when we took the MV Mt Sunapee for a tour of Lake Sunapee or the MV Kearsarge for a great dinner. You can also visit the Fentons at their Appleseed Restaurant in Bradford, NH. They cook the finest foods and have a comfy and pleasant atmosphere to boot.
Taking a tour boat is the only way to see all the wonderful houses built on water's edge. The passing of the boat seems to be the highlight of the kids as they do dance routines and acrobatic dives as the boat passes by.
If you don't have access to the water while you are in NH, this is a fun way to get out on a lake. I did the dinner cruise with a local friend, and the overall experience was fine. It's nice to eat on a lake and have a good view of water and lovely homes. The food is decidedly average - as a previous reviewer mentioned, the appetizer includes Ritz-like crackers and something that looks and tastes like Cheez-whiz; the buffet is also uninspired, including baked beans, and the dessert is a slice of layer cake you could get in the freezer section of a grocery store. However, I still recommend this as just a pleasant evening - don't expect a gourmet experience, but do enjoy the overall ambiance and fun of good company and good service (all working on board were great!). I also advise that you go early in the summer, getting the most of the sunlight and sunset - end of August also means cruising back in the dark.
Fun tour around Lake Sunapee. Get great views and history of the lake. Even get to see where celebrities live.
We did a dinner cruise on the MV Kearsarge. It is a lovely 2 hour cruise up and down the lake, with the captain pointing out scenic highlights along the way. We were a little nervous about what dinner would be like when the waiter brought us some plastic plates with crackers and what tasted like cheese Whiz to snack on while he took our drink orders. But the buffet turned out to be very good-- there was a big salad bar, vegetables, pasta, a vegetarion option, pulled pork, and a carved beef roast. All the food was good-- better than we had expected. Cost is very reasonable-- $40 per person, for dinner and the cruise. (Drinks not included.)We were very glad we went!
You arrive at the harbor in Sunapee New Hampshire and there are two large boats tied to the dock. MVMount Sunapee II and the MV Kearsage. During the day you can ride the Sunapee around the 3 mile wide 7 mile long lake and hear the history of the lake, the area and even some ot he boats history. At dinner time and late nights you may find your self on what once was a paddle wheeled boat cruising around the area for the dinner and tour in spenderous comfort.
Have been on this wonderful tour of Lake Sunapee, NH several times over the years on summertime visits. I live here now and my latest cruise was on August 10, 2014 during "Love Your Lakes Day". The cruise's Captain was entertaining and informative. The view - beautiful as ever!
A 2 hour sunset/dinner cruise on Lake Sunapee on a delightful boat with a delightful Captain and crew. Great scenery with narrative by Captain Cara and a really good buffet dinner including steamship roast beef carved to your spec. Excellent wait staff and good selection of wines and a full bar-- Margarita was terrific. A little pricey but definitely worth a splurge on a warm evening with a sunset. Suggest reading review by others regarding the sights and Captains' narrative .
We kept hearing the radio ads inviting us to join the cruise around beautiful lake Sunapee. A impromptu trip we headed to the lake for the cruise after we purchased the tickets online and used our AAA discount. It was a perfect day weather wise, and we sat on the top deck to soak up the sun, views and breeze from the lake. Truly relaxing! Captain Kipper was a great story teller of different places around the lake and never overbearing with stories or points of interest. The tour was 90 minutes long, just right. This was perfect day trip for little money. After our ride we walked through the shops which provided a great end to the ride.
Hubby and I spent an hour and a half cruising around Lake Sunapee on a recent gorgeous, weather-perfect day. The entire experience was first-rate from start to finish. As a fifth-generation local, our captain was knowledgeable, had lots of interesting stories to tell, and seemed to know everyone we encountered on our tour around this 11-mile long lake. Everything always looks so different from the water, and the homes we saw - hidden from the road by trees, etc. - stood out in all their splendor from the water. The 2 p.m. tour is the perfect way to spend a lazy summer afternoon, and the price is very reasonable too. Well worth your time!
WOW!!! I've been on a lot of dinner cruises (and now pretty much dread going when someone suggests one!) but this one was DIFFERENT!! Very personal, awesome food with healthy alternatives on the salad bar..... and BEST OF ALL, a well thought narrative that WASN'T ANNOYING!! Captain Cara is a true professional--- first she greets the passengers, then steers & navigates the lake, entertains the kids with a chance to drive the boat----- all this & she also speaks clearly (NO MONOTONE, hard to understand squawky speaker thing going on!) She only interjects when there's something interesting to point out..... which gives you the chance to actually enjoy the conversation with the group you're cruising with (novel concept, right?)If you've shied away from cruises, like I have because they're mostly ghastly, take a tour with Capt'n Cara!!! We had a great time! Thank you so much!
We visited today because we have The Fun Pass from Breathe NH so my daughter could ride free with my paid admission. Captain Kara was very informative and very nice. She allows kiddos off all ages to come up and drive the boat. We had a great time aboard. I would not recommend sitting in the back of the boat on the top there is a large box so you end up not being able to see the whole lake.
During our recent driving tour of New England, my wife and I decided to take advantage of the last two seats available for the Lake Sunapee dinner cruise aboard the M.V. Kearsarge. It was their special Father's Day event and the boat was almost booked. The boat, although old and relatively small, was comfortable and well suited to serve a buffet-style dinner for about 30 passengers. The food was remarkably good given the limited serving space. The crew was attentive and courteous. We really enjoyed standing along the deck rail with our wine while taking in the peace and serenity of the lake. If you're going to be in Sunapee for just one night (as were we), by all means plan to have your evening meal out on the lake.
Smiling female staff especially the Captain.. Captain will personally seat you, she will answer any questions, and let you steer/pilot. Cruise is about 2 hours enjoying the sunset and beautiful homes/camps through out. Buffet with plenty of food very delicious, could have been warmer but still delicious. followed by dessert and coffee. Keep an eye out around the first corner you just might see Steven Tyler enjoying his summer home/camp.. local cabins available if you are traveling in to rest your head for the night as well.. Enjoy we did..
We really enjoyed our cruise on the MV Mt Sunapee II, even though it was an overcast and breezy day. Captain Al really does a great job narrating the tour with very informative details and history of the lake. If you are even remotely curious about the lake, you should take this tour. It was an excellent value and we will remember it for a long time.
