We often visit this area to just get away and relax. We use to see several moose during our stay, but not so much any more. We do see deer, rabbits, birds, etc. Hopefully the moose will came back. We love to drive around the area and enjoy the beautiful scenery.....no matter what the season :)

During all seasons you can find outdoor activities, from fishing to hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.

Have stayed at Cabin #3 (Drake) for 9-10 days over Labor Day weekend for many years and love it. All four of our grown "kids" and a herd of grand-kids and great grand-kids come up over the weekend and we have a family reunion with up to 23 persons involved. The fact that we have all seven cabins reserved for 2015 speaks for itself!

There are little side roads everywhere to explore and walk on trails. Moose Allley, Route 3, is right there for your moose watching and exploring!

I love living here. Right now the foliage is probably right at peak and it is breathtaking. With the sun shining, there's a splash of beautiful fall colors with Magalloway Mt. looming in the distance. You can now walk around some of the lakes since the water is being pulled for the winter melting. Ride the logging roads and see some of the ponds and wild life. We saw a moose just the other day, despite their decline in population. It's best to view them at either dawn or dusk.

The lake was much bigger than I imagined and it was so nice to see all the trees around the lake changing colors for the fall.

After over 50 yrs of vacationing here, I moved here! We wake up every morning with a smile. We travel the fire roads & ck out the remote ponds and wildlife. We love fishing the brooks and river (can easily walk from our home to the Connecticuit River) ! Our closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away although we are only 2 miles from downtown Colebrook. We can take pics of moose & bear etc in our driveway! Will be trolling the lakes in the spring. We are used to the snow & cold so how can life get better? IT CAN'T !

We hiked the trail to 4th Connecticut lake and it was beautiful. We didn't see any moose but walked along moose prints most of the trail. When you get to the lake it is pretty cool to see how the huge Connecticut river starts in this little pond. The trail is steep in some spots and could be challenging for some people.

The views and just being out in the Northern woods is the best. Pittsburg is the nicest place to visit while! The people are the nicest you could ask for, real friendly and more then happy to help out with any question you may have about their great area.

Twice a year I travel up there it is the best place for a vacation. Peaceful, quiet, wildlife, fishing, hiking, four wheeling.

Plan on at least a week to visit the First Connecticut area - and bring your fishing pole and your camera. Leave your phone at home (you won't have service anyway)! The lake water is clear and cold with plenty of lake access for those of you with boats/canoes/kayaks. This region is beautiful any time of day!

This region is gorgeous. So much scenery to take in - tons of trails. We had a wonderful time will visit again. Highly recommend.

This was our first trip to this remote area, and we loved it. Memories linger still, and the area definitely tugs at my heart. We like to hike and kayak, and this is perfect for both. Little Hellgate Falls trail is off Magalloway Road, between 1st and 2nd lakes, difficult to find, but well worth it. The beginning of the trail is like a little Hobbitown, green and lush with undergrowth, shaded by tall firs. And the falls themselves are stunning and a great place to sit and have lunch. Best kayak we did was East Inlet, just north of 2nd Lake. Remote, peaceful and a favorite spot for otters and birds, especially at the far north end. The Connecticut Lakes region is a place we will return again and again. No traffic, friendly people, beautiful woods and lakes, ponds, waterfalls. We also climbed Magalloway Mountain. Up Coots trail and down Bobcat. Very steep and Bobcat was quite slippery, but the views at the top of the fire tower and around the summit take in Quebec, the Presidentials, and Vermont.

This area is really nice, sparsely populated with plenty to do outdoors. Fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, etc. If you're into doing things outside, this is a place to consider.

We stopped in this area while driving back from Quebec City to Boston for a couple of days. The natural beauty of this area cannot be described. Very rural and relaxing. We spent a night on "Moose Alley" as described the best area around to try to see a Moose. This is the area just North of town on Rt 3, the main road thru here. There were plenty of people pulled off on the side of the road at dusk waiting for the Moose to visit but after an hour of combined sitting and cruising, not one Moose, we went back to our cabin very disappointed. The 2nd night we tried again and saw nothing, and we thought what the heck is going here until I randomly turned down a dirt logging road, and spotted a size able Moose within a minute of being on that road. Pretty cool!
