We really enjoyed touring this museum with a group of auto enthusiates! There were so many cars and old gasoline pumps on display. It was the most impressive display that I have ever seen anywhere! It is out in the country and so unexpected. There are lovey grounds for a little picnic too.We also were able to view the Maple Hills Staple that was a short walk away. I would highly recommend a visit.
Wow, this place was great. Very impressive collections. We could probably go back a dozen times and see something new every time.
This museum is first-rate. Autos, gas pumps, pedal cars, automotive items in pristine condition. So nice to see this history restored for future generations to appreciate. Also, the grounds surrounding the museum buildings are beautiful.
Beautiful place, good sights and great hospitality.....even brought a 9 year old girl and she had a good time.....
Unbelievable collection that had me in awe. In addition to the beautiful cars, the signage and the gas pump collection was overwhelming. Museum was spotless, perfect setting for the beautiful restorations it holds. This is a can't miss for anyone who loves these old cars and appreciates the craftsmanship it takes to restore them. Our hosts made us feel at home, perfect day for a car guy!!
If anyone has seen the show "American Pickers" experiance the same feeling that they do when they stumble upon the types of treasures in the Veit Collection. It is truly like traveling back in time and experiancing what it was like in those special years and the beauty in car design, gas pumps and things that were popular from the early 1900's up thru the 1970's. A fantastic collection which you'll find yourself looking at the items and wondering the storys behind each item.A collection that any car enthusiast should not pass up!
But if you do have a passion for classic cars and automobilia Vaughn's personal collection will likely bring you to your knees. It's not just about the classic cars (and he obviously loves 33 Fords), or the fabulous finned boats, or the Johnny Cash & Elvis collectables, or the working garage with a punch-list of maintenance/repair jobs, nor the engine table the assorted car couches, thousands and I mean thousands of small collectable details, and not to mention the hundreds of perfectly restored visible gas pumps...including a White Eagle twin pump that may be the only one of its kind anywhere in the world. This treasure is about a lifetime of collecting, the feelings and memories these displays bring up, and sharing stories of what we remember and have collected over the year. It’s a perfect opportunity to remember how important our automotive past is and how it shaped how we design automobiles today. You'll be sharing your own stories as you look at this collection. Equally as important to the amazing displays is the staff at the Foundation; ready and willing to work with you to make sure your experience is a great one. They are working hard to make this an amazing attraction and I can only imagine the list of great additions Vaughn has planned. I propose a great classic 33 Ford right in the middle of the great family pond raised a few feet above the water....Definitely would be another great display/photo opportunity. To top off the experience (as if possible) this VEIT family owned property where Vaughn and Chryse actually live today also host Chryse's horsepower collection of amazing American Saddlebred Horses in the Maple Hills Stable. This modern stable is actually the original Macalester College Field House...re-constructed piece by piece on the property and adapted to house amazing live horsepower.Don't forget to see the chrome commander guarding the gates of the Maple Hills Stables. If you have an opportunity to visit this property it would be impossible to be disappointed.
we had a great time beautiful scenery and the cars ....... i am speachless.. you gotta see to believe
Very interesting. Great guide that could answer all of our questions. Beautiful setting with amazing vehicles, gas pumps and much much more.
Our car club got the great opportunity to visit the museum last week. The visit coordinators were great and allowed us all the time we needed to tour this fantastic collection. It's not just the classic cars and hot rods (they were great), but the amazing display of gas pumps and other automotive memorabilia that blew me away. Thanks to the Veit family and their dedicated group of employees who make this available to visitors.
We were invited by the 7-Hi Cruisers to tour the museum, buildings and grounds in November 2013. The weather was perfect for a fall cruise, the tour was amazing, visually stunning, featuring impressive collections of petroliana, vintage/classic and high-performance autos, vintage signs, and so forth.... plus....their grounds held ALL the cars that were in our group -some 70+ people total. Make sure you bring an empty memory card for your camera, you'll be taking MAny pics, lol.
I went to the museum with my son on a cold January day and we were the only ones there. We enjoyed the drive down the country lane and quickly realized that careful planning (with a dose of whimsy) had gone into the placement of signs and abandoned vehicles along the lane. The careful planning and incredible detail was present as we walked into the main building. There on the walls were generations of automotive memorabilia - oil cans, tools, signs of all kinds, pop dispensers, etc. A real trip down memory lane. I enjoyed seeing all of the restored gas pumps and the collections of cars are incredible! I highly recommend this museum to anyone!
The Veit Foundation Museum is a hidden gem within the walls of Minnesota. My trip started down a long beautiful picturesque snow covered drive with the trees overhanging the street into the complex. Met by the Veit family for a guided tour of the collection we headed into to see the cars. The statuesque round barn held a great blend of unique gas pumps, vintage gear, muscle cars and street rods. I would recommend a tour to the Veit Foundation Museum to anyone who has an appreciation for vintage cars, history and or beautiful artifacts. What an amazing space put together by the Veit family. This fantastic collection is not one to miss.
I have been to larger collections, however bigger is not always better. I was impressed with the excellent quality of this extraordinary collection. Our October tour could not have been more enjoyable and interesting (except the rainy day). This has to be the best collection of rare gas pumps anywhere. The vehicle collection was well chosen including the many 1933 Fords. We were also impressed the Vaughn accompanied our group and readily answered our questions. The tour of the stables and arena was a bonus and a great example of innovative uses of recycled building materials. I highly recommend a tour to anyone! Dennis Felling, Eagan
Lyle and I had always heard how interesting this museum was so he stopped in and arranged a day and time for our car club, Chevy's Best, to stop in and see the place. A few in the group had been there before and couldn't say enough about the fantastic collection. When the day arrived and we finally got out there, it was more than amazing .... a hidden gem in the countryside where one could spend days looking at this fine collection and reading and hearing about the history of each item. The items were amazing as were the buildings and grounds. We were fortunate, too, to see Mr Veit that day as he was the one who hosted the group. He and his staff were patient and answered every one of our many questions. We saw it all ... the beautiful scenic drive up the driveway to the car museum buildings, the many different buildings and collections as well as the garage mural, the amazing yards and gardens and the beautiful horse barn. We were also fortunate to see several of the horses and had a chance to talk to some of the staff there, too, who also answered every single question thrown at them. So, we highly recommend calling and making plans to visit this beautiful place in Monticello. What a true treasure!
