the kids love the slopes, not that steep so no a big deal, they spend hours skiing, a family friendly spot.
Always great and no complaints. Parking is a little difficult during the busy season, but it always seems to work out
Lots of lanes to go tubing. Tubes are provided. We went almost at the end of the day and that day the automatic belt was on and off not working! I got a super workout on my legs! I felt a little rushed at the end , there was a whole hour before it was suppose to be done and the y kept closing lanes little by little to let us know that they wanted to go home. However, we had a good time, it was bitter cold and the snow would splash on our faces I wish I had a whole head helmet! We had a blast though!
We enjoyed the snow tubing. Nice, safe for younger kids, and had so much fun. Lovely area with a bonfire going to warm you up. My kids wanted more than the two hour ticket! The down hill ski and snowboard area also looked fantastic. We will be back1
Buck Hill is a family friendly location to gain confidence for skiing. They offer a skiing, boarding for experienced and novice skiers.
Buck Hill isn't Vail, it is a small ski hill in the middle of the Twin Cities metro area. As far as small midwestern ski resorts are concerned, Buck Hill is fantastic. Modern chair lifts, one of the longest "carpet" style lifts I have ever seen (very easy for beginners!).The snow tubing area is also very nice for those people not interested in learning to ski or board. The food and service in the bar is questionable, but there are plenty of other options nearby.
Buck Hill is a perfect place to learn how to ski. In the past it has produced several Olympian and Junior Olympian skiers, including Lindsey Vonn and Kristina Koznick.
The staff here is amazing! My brother was their just recently and he being klutzy fell. The staff was really good with him and took him right down to ski patrol so that we could get him to the doctors. We are so thankful that the staff is vigulant and very hands on and knows what they are doing.
I am just a beginner. The instructor was very good at explaining the skiing process. I had to use to tow rope and didn't fall on my face. Soon after I went on the chair lift and did just fine. I recommend Buck Hill.
Buck hill has a great area and wonderful alpine ski team. Several runs with quad chair lifts. Super easy access from road.
in general place is not bad, but we drove from Chicago, I was expecting something more ..... alive or ... I've had some experience already, but for my boyfriend it's first time.... wasn't cool.... but it's also is not expensive, so may be it shoild be no complaint...
Buck hill is an excellent ski resort especially for beginners. the instructors are super nice and cool and the overall atmosphere is fun! Being that it's really close to the Twin Cities and the surrounding suburbs, it's just a hop skip and a jump to get to. The runs are little short but there are adequate green circle areas as well as some blue squares. The last thing this hill will make you feel is intimidated. They have a snow tubing area which looks really fun! There challet does food throughout all hours of operation during the day and they have a bar/restaurant open in the evening hours. Did I mention if you go there early when they open you can get an early bird lift ticket for 13 bucks, most other places charge you for a full day minus like four dollars this place is a great value for half days skiing and snowboarding.
I'd been to Buck Hill before to snow tube several years ago and it was a blast. They've absolutely found a way to improve the experience, though, by adding new tubes and a moving platform transport to take snow tube riders up the hill. It's around $15 per adult for a 2 hour jaunt (depending upon the time of day,) which is plenty of time to wear yourself out and a have a ball sledding down the hill a zillion times. And running down the slope just doesn't get old, it's a fun experience every time. If you get a little cold, there's a nice bonfire circle that's well maintained and hot drinks and snacks available for purchase. The restroom facilities are nearby in the lodge and there is a restaurant (check hours of operation before you go,) if you'd like to warm up with a meal after spending the day tubing. We hit the slopes upon opening and were among only a few other riders. As the day progressed, more people came out and the slopes got quite full, but it didn't slow down our progress as there are plenty of lanes open. I think we had to wait a turn only once during the entire visit. It was quite cold during our visit, but we bundled up with lots of layers and used chapstick and Aquaphor to protect any exposed skin. Snow tubing is a bit of a work out, so it will not seem as cold until you stop.
For a beginner this place is good to start learning how to ski but for an intermittent skier the runs are too short and not difficult.
Its great to have ski and tube hills so close to the Cities. Nothing spectacular...just some good skiing.
